Out promoting his recent comedy flick The Details, at the Sundance Film Festival, MTV caught up with former Peter Parker actor Tobey Maguire. Speaking shortly, Maguire gives his stamp of approval on Marc Webbs's new Spidey suit for the reboot, who'll be donned by actor Andrew Garfield.

“The suit? I thought it looked cool,” he said. “I think they did a great job with the design of it and I’m excited to see it in action.”

While the most noticeable differences includes a darker Spider symbol & the thin strip of red down his chest, and not to mention it's vivid tone & more 'blue' than ever, the new Spider-Man swings into theaters July 3, in 3D!

Tobey Approves and so do I.

They should have kept Tobey, I like seeing a character evolve not backtrack.

sounded like he wasn't prepared to answer that actually.
which probably gives us his more honest opinion.
here's hoping.
he may not have been the best choice for the wallcrawler, but he left his mark.
any approval from him garners a positive reaction from me.

hey @Wadey09! do u ever get on chat? and if so when do u i'd really like to talk to u and did u finish ur story of spiderman? i didn't see any more posts... i really missed them :(

i liked tobey as spidey... but i'd really like someone different someone that is sort of the Robert Downey Jr. of spiderman... and no that's not garfeild! i honestly don't mind the reboot, or even the costume... but spidey still belongs in the MCU!

@otherside
i get on chat sometimes. usually when there's a contest quiz or something going on. but i finally figured out the time difference between wherever CBM is stationed and where i'm at.
its about a good four hour difference, so i finally should be able to get the times right.

as for my Spider-man story, i've kinda been caught up with work since i finally found a job back in August. i haven't written a single word since October at the latest. but i've been trying to get back into it. but i am suffering from a little bit of writer's block as well.

but hopefully, some idea will enthuse my imagination to continue the story. otherwise, i might need some help!

the biggest differences:

tobey's suit- has an arrow pointing to his crotch

garfield's suit- has a penis pointing to his crotch

just saying...

@supercaliente, either you're an idiot or a bad troll. Which is it? I'm wondering because you don't even know anything about the movie and yet your referencing two pictures (one of which is a stunt guy)against a trilogy of films as "the better spidey!". I'm going to guess, idiot.

Asking Tobey what he thinks about that suit is like being asked if an ugly baby is cute. There's only one answer.

He's a good guy, he's not going to bash the new shiney fish suit. I think I'll watch the Raimi films. Seeing Peter reminds me of some good times at the movies.

I agree with NeoBaggins...
It's not like he will ever say "It looks like SHIT!"...
of course he is going to give praise to the new Spidey...

@Vital - I believe his name used to be SuperKalSapphire... but I've been wrong before...

lol@supercaliente. Ok, now I know for a fact you're a troll after that last over-the-top hyperbollic comment. There is no footage of the movie in existents and yet your claiming Garfield is the best Spider-man in the world. Alrighty then.

Garfield may be cool and all but for me Toby as Spidey will always be the epitome of Spider-Man.

@Guason - agreed. "Toby-Spidey vs. Venom" = awesome

Maguire sucked as spiderman, Andrew Garfield will, i beleive, do a much more accurate interpretation of Peter Parker/ Spidey.
The Garfield image of Spiderman actually looks like a troubled teenager inside a hero's suit, as opposed to Maguires effeminate wimp that bursts into tears approach which he couldn't get right over THREE movies. Garfield's gonna nail it in ONE movie!
The suits different but ultimately cooler so lets just give Garfield and the reboot a chance.
I think we're all gonna be pleasantly suprised.

Wow Tobey approves. NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK, YOU ESSENTIALLY GOT FIRED FOR BEING CRAP.

Garfield will own. Yeah the suits a bit rubbish but at least there's someone good in it.

I wish people would stop moaning about the suit.
Most of the comic book suits alter greatly from their movie counterparts and no one seems to mind.
Since when did Batman have black body armour? His costume has essentially always been either grey and black or blue and grey material. Does Captain America's costume look like the classic image? Does Thor's?
No they don't, yet everyone seems hyped about them. In order to break away from the old movies a radical new design was needed.
If the reboot had stayed with a more classic design the fans would be moaning that no effort had been made so (frick) the reboot would have been the attitude.
I say (frick) the old suit, the new ones way better and more modern.

I agree with grif!!!
I if you kept up on news when spider man first came out toby did not even know anything about spider-man! and he is not a comic fan!!!
so what he thinks is cool don't impress me a bit!

I hope that this reboot is going to be good...I'm not really liking the new costume, but I will give it a chance...Oh, and MrBlonde...to the best of my knowledge, Tobey was never fired ...he and the rest of the cast chose to leave when Raimi backed out...I'm not saying he was the best choice for Peter, but I think he did a good job, and the comic nerd in me was happy to see him on screen, bringing my childhood hero to life...now it's Garfield's turn to bring Spidey back to the screen and I fully support him in the role, or at least I'll wait until I've seen him in action before I say anything negative, unlike some other people, anyway...make mine Marvel!!

@Deadshot - that's the problem. Toby didn't evolve at all. In three movies spanning what must have been three or four years of Peter Parkers life, the character didn't grow one bit.
GUNSMITH
GUNSMITH - 1/25/2011, 3:42 AM
I PREFER THE RAIMI SPIDERMAN THAN THE NEW BECAUSE IT CATERS MORE TO THE ORIGINAL LOOK OF SPIDERMAN, NO FANCY STUFF, NO "MY NEW SPIDERMAN LOOK" IT WAS TRUE TO THE LOOK AND THE ELEVATED METTALIC GREY WEBS JUST GAVE IT THE COOLEST LOOK, NOT CHANGING THE ORIGINAL DESIGN YET ALSO MAKING IT LOOK MOVIE WORTHY..YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE THINGS THAT LOOK GOOD ALREADY...

THE WAY THE MASK CAME OFF, EXACTLY LIKE THE COMIC BOOK...

THE RAIMI SUIT STAYS TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL LOOK WITHOUT THE FLASHY DESIGNS TO MAKE IT UNIQUE, IT TOOK LIBERTIES BUT IT DIDN'T CROSS THE LINE ...

the great part of not being in a movie for Tobey is he gets to watch it as a fan. Ironically Toby looks tougher since he did Brothers.

So, uh yeah there is an actor free to do another comic book movie. :)
