Two More Movies In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Franchise Confirmed For 2016 And 2018

Sony Pictures have today announced the release dates of the third and fourth instalments in their Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Hit the jump to find out when exactly you'll be able to see parts three and four on the big screen in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

CULVER CITY, Calif., June 17, 2013 – With Sony Pictures Entertainment now in production in New York on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, slated for release on May 2, 2014, the studio is planting its flag on two future release dates for one of the most successful franchises in studio history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures. The next two films in the story of Peter Parker will be released on June 10, 2016, and on May 4, 2018, respectively.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The executive producers are E. Bennett Walsh, Stan Lee, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.

The Amazing Spider-Man took in over $750 million at the worldwide box office last year.

Interesting that they jumped onto that first weekend of May right after Marvel grabbed it until 2017.

I hope this leads to a Sinister 6 movie! 4 movies in 8 years.

And then Sony will pull the plug on the fourth movie and reboot the franchise again five years later. These people will do anything to make sure that Spidey doesn't go back to Marvel.

I can't wait for there to be problems with the third one which leads to the director leaving and thus the fourth film gets cancelled and it gets rebooted all over again. :D

TASM was basic in the eyes of some deluded CBM fans because it was the beginning. The next chapters in the franchise will form the solid creation of the comic universe that many know and love. I’ll be happy in a couple of years knowing that I didn't highly doubt a director’s vision after only one movie.

They're skipping right past "trilogy" and going for a quadrilogy? Kinda counting your chickens before they're hatched, aren't you, Sony?

Then again, if they've got the balls to actually try and do the Sinister Six on the big screen, I guess they've got the balls to say "screw effective storytelling structure! We're gonna make this franchise episodic!"

Yes Grif because 3 days after Iron Man they confirmed dates for Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, & Avengers.

I would say TIH but Marvel did absolutely no promotion for it and even Green Lantern outgrossed that.
