Update! Spidey & Gwen Embrace On SFX's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Cover

Next issue of SFX has Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) on their cover, with a quote that perhaps foreshadows Gwen's fate. "After this movie, Peter Parker is never going to be the same!"

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

I kid, I kid. It does remind me of Stan Lee and even Dan Slott runs in Amazing Spider-Man, with the hyperbole. God, I can't [frick]ing wait for this!!

CoulsonLives, how could ASM 2 be the CBM of the year but Cap 2 is the best movie of the year?

It's interesting though, I'm also conflicted.

Gwen's death could hit film goers hard and be seen as groundbreaking. Alternatively some might see it as a TDK copy which was the "original" no take backs girlfriend death in CBMs even though Gwen is the original in comics.

Additionally while Spidey is known for drama in his life and goes through dark patches TAS-M borders on melodrama. He is still hurting over his dad's death, Uncle Ben died in his arms leading him to be a vigilante, Captain Stacey died in his arms leading to what we'll see in TAS-M 2, Gwen dying in his arms seems like overkill.

Andrew Garfield is the best Spider-Man that Hollywood could ever make it happen, and quite possibly the best Spider-Man will ever exist in live action.

This last piece of art is Steve McNiven's final page for Civil War #2, published in 2006. Long before Andrew Garfield was even famous or known in Hollywood, long before The Social Network. It's not like Marvel was going out of their way to despict Peter like Andrew, it's just that not only Andrew is an amazing actor, his face and body figure fit Spider-Man like he was born to do this. Very rare I'd say.

One thing that I notice that people not as into Spider-Man as us hardcore fanboys it's that they see Tobey Maguire as the "way Peter Parker should look like", when nothing is further from the truth. Tobey Maguire looks as much as Peter Parker and Spider-Man as Michael Keaton looks as Bruce Wayne and Batman. From my POV as a Spider-Man fan, Garfield is The Peter Parker / Spider-Man, capital T and bolded.

The advance screening buzz for both Cap and Spidey has been insane. I feel both films will deliver big time, and arguably both could be the CBM and Film of the year. Hell, we could call it a tie, if they are as good as people are talking about them.

@GoldenOne33

The SHH boards have links, but I'm avoiding that place because of the spoilers. I want to see the film fresh, but I reckon people are seeing test screenings for both Cap and Spidey in the upcoming days and weeks. Maybe even more people that post here.

Zauri I guess it depends on the artist though what throws me off visually about Andrew in comparison to what I grew up with is the hair, but acting wise I'd have to agree he's a solid pick.

Back in the day I thought Adam Brody really looked like Peter but he has that funny lisp thing going

But my all time pick was this guy

That's what frustrated me about Spider-man 3, Eric Foreman's smart-ass routine was so Spidey.

@breakUbatman

What makes me to become such a big Andrew Garfield advocate is that he genuinely seems to have a grasp and an understanding of who Spider-Man is like any other actor playing a superhero right now. I sincerily don't think no other choice at time would be better than him, because while we could even picture them playing Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield has literally become Peter Parker in my book. His performance as Spidey could grow to become as respected as Bale's Batman, RDJ's Iron Man and dare I say it, Ledger's Joker.

Can you imagine getting to play the biggest and coolest superhero ever, one you used to geek out as a kid, getting to redefine the character and add little traits to the character that make him even more real? Garfield is living the dream, and I can't help but root for him. I seriously think people should acknowledge more what he is doing with this role, and I feel this is coming with this film. As for the hair, Peter's hair has always evolved through the years. His hair didn't look that different than what Garfield used for at least a decade, albeit shorter. Peter is a kid, he has the hair a kid would have, nothing wrong on that imho.

@AlphaFlexXx

I think it's supposed to be hinted that way on purpose, mainly for the fans. I think Webb is really trying to gear fans to this making us go "are they really going to do it? no they probably won't. but they keep hinting it. they won't do it. BUT THEY MIGHT" and it's fun! The only hard part about this that i'm just now realizing is when this movie is down to being released and the spoilers we're gong to have to avoid!

I have a really good feeling about TASM2. It looks like what TASM should've been.

Yah, the placement of Spidey's head is unfortunate considering him and Gwen are holding each other...

@ Zauri

No doubt I was happy for the guy being cast as Peter he's perfect. However I dont think that TASM 1 had a great performance from him. That whole "still becoming the Peter you know" thing doesn't sit well with me, or his speech patterns. He is the perfect casting, he just needs to deliver the perfect performance for me now

The hair thing for me is just all part of the small little details in a film, for example look at Cap in TFA and Avengers. He looked old school and it just adds a lot to the man out of time aspect in such a subtle way. Now if you look at him in TWS he looks modern as if he has adjusted somewhat. Personally I would have liked him to keep the old hair style as part of his personal style.

Similarly Wolverine's hairstyles in the movies are all variations on the same style but certain ones looked just right for Wolverine. Similarly Banner has had many hairstyles but Ruffalo looks more like Banner in Avengers than he did in Iron Man 3. Yes Peter's a kid an all but that hair seems a bit to cool for Peter. Its a small thing I know but by Thor's blonde eyebrows it gets to me.

I'm strange like that :)

Hahaha, I get that, I just think that I'm kind of used to hair style changes when it comes to Spidey. Also, the fact that Garfield's Spidey looks just like what he has been using in the comics in the last ten years or so made Andrew looks look flawless to me when it comes to looking like the character. I can understand where you are coming from though.
