BOX OFFICE: SUICIDE SQUAD Remains At #1 For A Third Week As BEN-HUR Crashes And Burns

As expected, Suicide Squad has remained at #1 this weekend, a feat which both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to achieve! Hit the jump for all the latest updates...

Ben-Hur is the final big budget movie of the summer, but it also looks set to be one of its biggest flops. Despite an attempt to draw in faith based moviegoers, the remake of the Oscar winning classic looks set to make a paltry $11 million - $12 million this weekend despite surprisingly receiving an A- CinemaScore. After a $4.1 million debut on Friday, Ben-Hur will finish behind War DogsKubo and the Two Strings, and Sausage Party, and that leaves the door open for Suicide Squad to take advantage.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Suicide Squad will stay at #1 after grossing $6 million yesterday, and despite yet another fairly significant drop, a haul of $20 million over the weekend will be more than enough to make sure it's one of just a handful of 2016 releases to stay at the top spot for three consecutive weeks this year. As a result, it should end up with a domestic haul of $261 million, a number which you have to believe Warner Bros. is very happy with after those negative reviews.

What, if anything, did you watch this weekend? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

In before Coleco and Batmaniac compare it to not making as much money as MCU films and why that's "sad".

A Ben-Hur remake released in the middle of August with little to no name actors flopped?

@TheNewGuy123 - The cast was to me something that actually made the film somewhat interesting.

Sad to see that Toby Kebbell can add another box office bomb to his list. The guy is talented, but must have one of the worst agents in Hollywood.

@Philip - Don't get me wrong, it's a great cast, and I would watch them in anything, but they're not on the level of A-list that would guarantee every movie is super successful. Basically, I've seen the trailer for this movie in the theater at least 5 times, and I never heard anybody in the theater say "I'm gonna see that movie because Jack Huston's in it!" (in fact, whenever that trailer showed up nobody made a sound). I feel bad for Kebbell too, let's hope Kong works out (even though something tells me he'll be one of the first people to die).
