Benicio Del Toro Rumored To Be In Line For Main Villain Role In James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD

This should be taken with a pinch of salt for now, but a new report suggests that James Gun may be looking to reunite with Guardians of the Galaxy's Benicio Del Toro for his upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.

Following on from their report that Idris Elba might be playing Bronze Tiger in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, Forbes (via Empire) reckon Benicio Del Toro (GOTG, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) may be in line for a villainous role in the sequel.

According to the site, the Guardians of the Galaxy actor is on Gunn's radar to play the movie's big bad, a character known as "The General." There are several established DC Comics villains that have used this moniker, including Wade Ellering and Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong. All we know about this guy is that he'll be a new thorn in Task Force X's side.

If Del Toro does end up signing on, he'll join returning stars Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman, along with new recruits Elba, David Dastmalchian, John Cena and Daniela Melchior.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.

UPDATE: It seems GWW first reported on this rumor last month, although they named his character as "The Major."

i really hope he's a more ground villain if not ..... lower the power scale to something reasonable . i hope Gunn knocks this one out of the park

Totally off topic, but unless I missed something, I just realized that the first three CBM's of 2020 will all be female led. That's crazy to think about considering it was two years between the last two female led CBM's.

@Oberlin4Prez - Every CBM of 2020 will be written and/or directed by women except for Morbius

There's a rumour Oscar Isaac might be one of the baddies too. Probably puts him out of contention for Scott Free then.

Vandal Savage would be nice and I wouldn't be surprised if The General is one of Savage's identities he has picked up along the way, during his long life.

I hope he plays a more interesting character than in the Marvel and Star Wars franchises

Wade Ellering? Isnt't more Wade “Eiling”? Because I have never heard about that one.

This Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong would be a fresh of breath air in introducing new villains to the general audience though so it could be him.

@knocturnalzen10 - I'd like to see him portray a different villain. Just never been a big Vandal Savage fan, no particular reason why.

@L0RDbuckethead - oh ok .... i think imo Savage would be great for a SS villain ... he's grand scale but not over the topic powers wise and Del toro can pull off some solid personality traits . Per his xp over the centuries he would pose a great problem for SS without creating the legion for groups like JL.

Need to be Al Gul fr. If you get John Cena in your movie, give him a role that can't be wasted like a hawkman or captain atom not a disposable suicide squad villain.

@TheRealMandarin - I know it's not high art or even Shakespeare in the park, but he's mediocre at best and should be grateful he gets rolls. A disposable villain sounds about right to me.

@sKeemAn - witherspoon was on Rogan podcast a few days ago and said Boondocks is coming back , i'm not sure if he was trolling but wouldn't that be epic if we got season 5 with season 1 & 2 QT !!!!!!!!!!!!
