Benicio Del Toro Rumored To Be In Line For Main Villain Role In James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD

This should be taken with a pinch of salt for now, but a new report suggests that James Gun may be looking to reunite with Guardians of the Galaxy's Benicio Del Toro for his upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.

Following on from their report that Idris Elba might be playing Bronze Tiger in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, Forbes (via Empire) reckon Benicio Del Toro (GOTG, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) may be in line for a villainous role in the sequel.

According to the site, the Guardians of the Galaxy actor is on Gunn's radar to play the movie's big bad, a character known as "The General." There are several established DC Comics villains that have used this moniker, including Wade Ellering and Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong. All we know about this guy is that he'll be a new thorn in Task Force X's side.

If Del Toro does end up signing on, he'll join returning stars Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman, along with new recruits Elba, David Dastmalchian, John Cena and Daniela Melchior.

The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.

UPDATE: It seems GWW first reported on this rumor last month, although they named his character as "The Major."
