Despite numerous reports and rumors relating to Warner Bros.' plans for another solo Superman movie, the studio has never really given us any indication that it was actively considering a new Man of Steel project.
It does seem to be something that's still on WB's radar, however, because James Gun has now revealed that directing the movie was an option before he signed on to helm The Suicide Squad.
During an interview with Empire, Gunn confirmed that he found out he would be able to return to Marvel Studios make Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 just one day after he’d already agreed to board The Suicide Squad. When asked how Kevin Feige took the news, Gunn said he asked: “Is it Superman?” when he told him he was going to direct a DC movie, before confirming that it "was a possibility" to the mag.
The filmmaker didn't elaborate, and we have no idea if this would have been a direct sequel to Man of Steel or a brand new take on the character. Either way, it would seem to confirm that WB was, up until recently, tentatively developing a new Superman project.
As for Feige's response to Gunn telling him he'd be directing a follow-up to Suicide Squad? “Please, please make a good movie. Just… make a great movie.”
What do you guys think? Would Gunn have been the right person to bring Supes back to the big screen? Who else would you like to see get a shot at the Big Blue Boyscout? Drop us a comment down below.
