THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Talks More About PEACEMAKER Plans And Whether It Affects GOTG VOL. 3

Yesterday, we learned that James Gunn is writing and directing a Peacemaker TV series spinning out of the events of The Suicide Squad. While it's believed to be a prequel, a series of Tweets from the filmmaker has shed some light on what fans can expect from the HBO Max spinoff.

Interestingly, Gunn started by noting that the actual timeline of the show is being kept under wraps until after The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters, so it's feasible it will follow the Task Force X member both before we meet him in the movie and after he's worked for Amanda Waller and A.R.G.U.S.

The filmmaker also confirmed that being stuck at home thanks to COVID-19 inspired him to pen Peacemaker, and that he will be working on it in the space between The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (meaning the Marvel Studios film won't be delayed in any way due to the spinoff).

Gunn was also asked about giving pro wrestlers like Dave Bautista and John Cena a chance in high-profile projects like these, and he revealed that he cast them not because he's necessarily a fan of the sport, but after what he'd seen of them in their various acting gigs outside the ring.

Check out Gunn's Tweets below:

GOTG Vol. 3 isn't coming out before 2023 or even 2024 at this rate so he got time

@WakandanQueen - Can’t believe it’ll be 10 years since the first movie if it comes out in 2024

@WakandanQueen - My guess is july 2023, since that would give him about a year for Peacemaker and a year for Volume 3

@WakandanQueen - at least we're getting it. so much doubt was cast on his return (despite the fact that it's been confimed literally for ever now) so it's nice to have confirmation straight from him.

@DaHyro - damn, never even thought about that. It's weird to think even the MCU as a whole is over a decade old now, let alone a decade of Guardians of the Galaxy by the time Vol 3 lands in theatres.

Won't be seeing Guardians 3 until atleast 2023 then, which is not surpising at all. Luckily we have The Suicide Squad first, and this closely following has me only looking forward more to it

I'd like to see Gunn exploring other DC characters.

There are even Secret Six characters that Gunn may be interested in. He knows what to do with Rag Doll, Dave Bautista would get a chance to play Bane and Catman can be a lot of fun.

I just realized the obvious joke to make about this series announcement was "well, no one saw that coming" yet nobody made it, not even me. I'm getting old and slow :p

Wrestling is acting anyway. You just gotta be a good actor and charismatic and muscular enough, and by enough I mean really really popular, and bam you’re in movies. Now Batista was more surprising, since John Cena and the Rock were(are? I don’t keep up) super popular, but I didn’t watch wrestling in his time either. Could be he was the Stone Cold of his era, idk. Also Dwayne and John are attractive to women. Could be Batista is too but I never had to say “hey stop staring at the shirtless alien” to my wife. The other two, well, they can kick rocks.
