THE SUICIDE SQUAD Star Joel Kinnaman Says The DC Movie is "Heavily R-Rated And Super Silly"

In a new interview, Joel Kinnaman has shared more details on what fans can expect from The Suicide Squad, and it definitely sounds like quite a departure to what we're used to seeing from the DCEU...

While The Suicide Squad looks set to serve as a loose sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad, it's pretty obvious that Warner Bros. is looking at this movie as a way of rebooting the franchise. It's a smart move, and even smarter to task Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn with taking the helm.

Joel Kinnaman (who reprises his role as Colonel Rick Flag) has been singing the praises of the movie for a while, but has now shed even more light on what sort of experience fans are in for this August.

"I don’t think [Gunn] had to compromise one iota of his vision," Kinnaman told The Playlist after reflecting on what happened with The Suicide Squad's 2016 predecessor. "He really got to do exactly what he wanted. And it’s definitely going to be the biggest budget R-rated movie that’s ever been made."

"And it’s heavily R-rated and super silly," the actor continued. "It’s really like childish, childish humor and it also finds these profound moments where you get really emotionally moved. And then it’s super violent and then it’s really silly again…Every character is just so ridiculous."

It sounds like a wonderfully weird movie, and one we'll be able to experience in theaters and on HBO Max over the summer. How much of a role Flag will play remains to be seen, but some fans remain convinced that Gunn is planning to kill off the original members of Task Force X very early in this sequel.

That would be a waste, especially as Flag is one character, in particular, we're keen to see more of!

10. Sony Moves Forward With Another Spider-Man Spinoff

Dusk

Depending how well you know your 90s comics, Dusk will either be instantly familiar or a character you've probably never heard of. Introduced in 1998 in the pages of Slingers, this supernatural superhero has the power of teleportation, as well as some psychic abilities. Eventually, she mastered the art of shadow manipulation and tissue regeneration.

Spider-Man would later take on the mantle of "Dusk" after being framed for murder, and it's said Sony Pictures is looking to expand their Marvel Universe with a movie based on the character.

9. Titans Casts Barbara Gordon

Barb222

We've known for a while that Barbara Gordon is coming to Titans, though this version of the character won't be Oracle. Instead, she's going to serve as the Commissioner of Gotham City P.D.

Now, it's been confirmed that Savannah Welch will play the former Batgirl. The actress lost one of her legs following an accident in 2016. She's since become a spokesperson for those in the disability community, though it's unclear whether Barbara Gordon will be portrayed as an amputee in the show.

More details on this casting news can be found here.

8. Batman: The Animated Series Sequel Possibly In Development

2392389121

Batman: The Animated Series is a beloved TV show, but it's been off the air since 1995. Now, though, it's said that WarnerMedia has plans to resurrect the series on HBO Max in some form.

The news was shared by filmmaker Kevin Smith on a recent edition of his podcast when co-host Marc Bernardin shared a rumour that "HBO Max is looking at making a Batman: The Animated Series sequel that they want to continue that forward." Smith would add to this point, noting that, "I'm not involved, but I too have heard this and I've heard this from very reliable people."

The full story on these plans is right here.

7. Thor: Love And Thunder Casts Matt Damon

Dusk123

As you'll no doubt recall, Matt Damon made a cameo appearance in Thor: Ragnarok as an Asgardian actor playing Loki. However, it looks like he'll have a much bigger part to play in Thor: Love and Thunder. Apparently, the Bourne star has landed in Australia ready to start filming the movie!

We don't know which character Damon is going to be bringing to life in the MCU, but here's hoping this is more than just a fun cameo appearance. It seems we'll have to wait and see for now, though.

6. Avengers: Endgame Once Had A Post-Credits Scene

Dusk12

Doing the rounds to promote WandaVision, star Paul Bettany revealed that Marvel Studios once planned to give Avengers: Endgame a post-credits scene teasing the Disney+ series.

"At one point I was going to be in a tag, where you opened a sort of body bag drawer and there was the Vision," the actor says of the 2019 release. "Kevin kind of talked to me and said, 'I've got to pull the shots.' I was like, 'Ugh!' Because I really wanted that profit participation (laughs)."

He didn't elaborate on why this wasn't shot, but the Russo Brothers have previously said that the movie didn't have a stinger because it was supposed to serve as an end of an era for the MCU.

5. Justice League Is Being Released As A One-Shot Movie

Dusk1

When it was first revealed that Warner Bros. had made the decision to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, it was widely reported that the plan was to have Justice League hit HBO Max as a four-part miniseries.

Snyder has previously said that Warner Bros. was 100% on board with him releasing the movie in a way that lived up to his original vision, and it seems that will be as a feature. Earlier this week, the filmmaker confirmed on Vero that we're getting it as a "one-shot," and not as a miniseries.

Check out Snyder's Vero post here.

4. Superman & Lois Trailer Released

Dusk

A new trailer for Superman & Lois was released this week, and it included plenty of major reveals. For staters, we learn more about Clark Kent and Lois Lane's life in Smallville, while their teenage sons also get quite a bit of attention. Lana Lang shows up, as does General Sam Lane, but it's a mysterious, armoured figure who really intrigues us. Could that be this show's take on Lex Luthor?

Superman & Lois' colour palette really jumps out at us, though, because it's impossible to watch this footage and not be reminded of Man of Steel (the costume even looks the same).

You can watch this new trailer for The CW series in the original article!

3. WandaVision May Have Just Added Quicksilver

Dusk1234

There's been chatter about Evan Peters having a role in WandaVision for months, and it seems those rumors have been confirmed today. The Spanish actor, Rodri Martin, who has previously dubbed Peters in the translated X-Men films took to Twitter over the weekend to reveal that he will reprise the role in this Disney+ series. Since then, he's made his account private and deleted the Tweet.

Our theory is that WandaVision will tackle the sitcom trope of actors being recast without their change of appearance ever being mentioned, so perhaps this "Pietro" showing up with be a tongue-in-cheek wink to that and Fox's X-Men franchise. When Wanda realises that, chaos is bound to ensue.

See the Tweet that leaked this news right here.

2. More Huge Release Date Delays

Dusk12344

We can't pretend we didn't see this coming, but sure wish it hadn't! Earlier this week, No Time to Die was, as expected, pushed to October. Ghostbusters: Afterlife, meanwhile, has been pushed to November, and a couple of highly anticipated blockbusters are now heading our way in 2022 instead.

Uncharted, for example, is set to be released next year now, as is Marvel Comics adaptation Morbius

More on these depressing release date delays can be found here.

1. A New Look At Darkseid Revealed

Dusk123

We know Darkseid will arrive on Earth as Uxas thousands of years before the Justice League assembles in the present day, and there's been speculation for a while now that we'll also spend time with him as Darkseid. Well, that's now been made official thanks to some new t-shirts from DC.

The armour looks incredible, and should definitely fit into the aesthetic of Zack Snyder's Justice League. It's surprising that our first look at Darkseid has come our way before a new trailer or poster, but these are currently being sold on the new DC Shop, and are bound to be popular among fans.

Take a look at this Justice League promo art by clicking here.

Silly, childish humor really isn't for me.

I don't need R-rated Guardians.

Yeah, the R rating definitely works in favor of a franchise like Suicide Squad.

Ugh. I like the R Rating but I probably will be the only one who prefers Ayer on this site. Why do they have to make these movies comedies? It works for Ant Man, Shazam, Deadpool and Harley. But I wish they would take source material more serious.
