Jared Leto's take on The Joker in Suicide Squad divided fans last year and while the Oscar-winning actor has made it clear in the past that he was unhappy with his role being cut down to pretty much nothing, Leto has now confirmed that he's never even watched the critically panned DC Comics adaptation from David Ayer. That's why his comments about playing the Clown Prince of Crime has been so vague!
Asked why he's never actually taken a closer look at the performance he went full on method for, Leto said it's simply because "as soon as you watch it, that’s when it becomes subjective." He continued:
"I just think with watching your own films, it can be too self-conscious of a process. You either like what you did and you’re prone to repeat it, or you didn’t like it, and it can make you self-conscious. I’m not sure how much win there is for me. But I read the scripts, so I know what’s going to happen."
Leto will return as The Joker (despite speculation to the contrary last year) in both Suicide Squad 2 and Warner Bros.' planned Joker/Harley Quinn movie. If Gotham City Sirens happens, he's expected to appear there too. What do you think about the actor's explanation for not watching Suicide Squad and do you believe him? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this news in the usual place.
