Brandon Routh's SUPERMAN: FLYBY Screen Test

Brandon Routh's SUPERMAN: FLYBY Screen Test

Before Brandon Routh became Superman/Clark Kent in Bryan Singer's 2006 film Superman Returns he auditioned for the very same role in 2004 for McG's never-made Superman: Flyby. Come see Brandon Routh wearing the Superman: Flyby costume.

In December of 2013, the website thinkmcflythink.com posted an image of Henry Cavill ("Man Of Steel," "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice") wearing McG's Superman: Flyby costume for his screen test. You can view that by clicking here. Oddly enough, a week later thinkmcflythink.com posted an image of Brandon Routh dressed in the Superman: Flyby costume as well, but that image didn't get picked up on by as many sites as the Cavill image. I missed it, but here it is now. Enjoy! By the way, several months after Routh tested for Superman: Flyby he would test for Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, and of course get the part.

SUPERMAN:FLYBY Plot  (written by J.J. Abrams) - Young PRINCE KAL-EL is rocketed to Earth in an effort for Jor-El to allow Kal-El to fufill the prophecy of being the chosen Kryptonian to end a century old Civil War. After surviving the years Kal-El now Clark Kent's life is shown through a series of scenes showcasing his life before Superman which leads right up to the moment he meets Lois Lane at a Metropolis College. All the while the young TY-ZOR Cousin to Clark Kent goes from Planet to Planet in search of his Cousin in hopes of killing him and crushing the war. When he arrives to Earth he discovers his Cousin has become SUPERMAN Earth's greatest protector and the two engage in a battle for the Earth it self. - CBM's Robert Garlen

Great as Kent. Horrible Supes. Sweet muscle pattern? Like a shiny, blue green lantern.

That Jennifer Aniston ad is the best news on this page, by far.

The movie that almost ruined Superman, forever.

If we can go from this to Man of Steel. There's hope for Green Lantern.

Routh was good in Superman Returns. He wasn't meant to be Superman from the comics or you guys version of Superman. He was suppose to be Reeve's Superman and did a good job.

Routh was a great Superman. It's sad he never got a chance to fully shine.

Routh was a pretty good Superman, but I'm glad they moved on. SR is an example of a movie with a select number of outstanding scenes, but as a whole is very boring and oddly depressing.

Thank the Lord almighty Zeus that Henry didn't get picked by Singer to be cast in such a crap fest of a Summer movie!

I do feel bad for Routh for being cast to basically play a knockoff Chris Reeve.

If they reboot The Lone Ranger then Routh should definitely be cast! Damn to be honest he would be bad ass as SHAZAM!!!

@Fairyemblem92

This was in 2004 though, four years before Iron Man. He may have never been Tony Stark if this movie didn't happen. crazy to think about.

I hated Superman Returns but am glad that Routh was given another good acting gig in the form of Atom in Arrow.
He was the best thing in Superman Returns

Superman Returns was an okay movie. I think the reason it failed was because rather than trying to do its own thing it was more of a homage to the Christopher Reeve Superman films. I thought Routh was pretty good as Superman too, just too much cheesy dialogue.

Brandon Routh talked about his screen test for McG, he said the suit was a prototype made from a very rigid plastic type material and was difficult to move in, however in both the pic of cavill and routh in the suit, the colors look beautiful, its nice to see the actual Superman "S" on a suit for once.

I actually just listened to Kevin Smith's podcast where he reviews Man of Steel, its almost 2 and half hrs long, but he does talk about Superman Returns for half an hr and says that Brandon Routh was never given the shot he deserved because he's actually a good actor that was basically told to do a Chris Reeve impression which wasn't fair and that he worked with him in Zack and Miri and Brandon is a great guy who is a talented actor who's career was cut short because of Superman Returns.

Mr. Routh is an incredible guy...whether as Superman or The Atom...I appreciate the humor and charm he brings. If all goes well we will see The Atom get his own show. That would be great! I would watch it!
