Brett Ratner Shares His Thoughts On Zack Snyder Being Chosen To Direct The Man Of Steel!

The X-Men 3 director talks about what he thinks of Zack Snyder helming the upcoming Superman reboot, talks about how he would make the movie and reveals that he might have an influence on the look of the logo...

"Is there envy? Maybe a little. It was a dream of mine to make a Superman movie. I think Zack was a good choice, an interesting choice. I'm going to be the first one in line to see that movie. I can't wait."

"Zack is a great visual director. It wasn't easy. I was a part of that for about a year. It was a challenge. It's hard to make a guy in tights with a cape relevant right now. It needs an interpretation...It needs a contemporary, visionary guy who can really take something and reinvent it for a contemporary audience and make it relevant. He's definitely in the zeitgeist. He's a great technical filmmaker, a great storyteller."

Interestingly, the director went on to talk about the work he did when there was a chance that he'd helm the upcoming reboot and revealed the following:

"I reinvented the logo, which I think they ended up using. I can't exactly tell, because I don't know if the red they're using is the red I picked. I did this incredible R & D."

"I'm really happy for him. I'm not an envious guy. I love filmmakers."

no, there is envy like "I hope you fail" envy and then there's envy like "man, that's a great gig! I wish I had it" envy. I think he is the latter. Kudos to him for speaking up and speaking truth to the matter.

Now cue the haters lash him for opening his mouth...

"I am soooooo not jealous. Yeah, that's right. I'm not jealous at all. I mean it. No jealousy here. I helped design the logo but they didn't pick me. But that's okay, because I'm not the jealous type. Not jealous, not jealous, not jealous,........"

Tea & Superdog- He probably just meant that he was the guy that came up with Supes' "relief" logo Singer used in Returns. But apparently Singer changed "reds" on Brett, that scallywag!!! Maybe it's his way of thinking that Returns would have been that much better had Singer not stolen it from under his strap-on.

The only other film I've seen directed by Brett Ratner is Rush Hour 3 and it was alright...crap, but ok. :P Also, i think its only fair to point out that the action scenes in X-Men 3 were brillaint and 1000x better than anything that Singer could ever come up with. Regardless, there's no way in hell that he should ever be let near another CBM and especially not Superman!

They should get rid of the cape and tights, give him blue jeans and a leather jacket. Don't make him from Krypton, have him get his powers from a demon. No flying either, he should teleport and have claws. And he should be a transsexual and have fur.
Don't put him in Metroplolis, put him in a real city, like Cape Town. Also Nobody reads papers anymore, he should be a hired assasin. And whats with the glasses thing? That never made sense. He should have several eyes and they should shoot earth, air, fire and water instead of non-existant things like lasers. Superman needs to be made relevant again, he needs to be in touch with the contemporary zietgiest. He should have a cybernetic AI superterrorist trying to take over his brain and manifesting itself in claw-like organic plants that run around his body.

Meh.. not really a fan of Ratner. X-3 should never have happened, it was pitiful. Zack Snyder on the other hand, I LOVE his work so far (well, with the exception of changing the Watchmen ending). I was so happy to hear he would be directing the new Superman, can't wait to see it, along with his other upcoming movies.

Reinvention. Interpretation.

Ratner is just expressing the obvious take Hollywood would have on Superman. Somehow I bet it will be very different from anything we have seen before. Usually that is a good thing but with a 75 year old SuperHero I am a bit worried.

@JoshW

At least X-3 had action. Someone besides Wolverine got to do something. And lets not forget in that movie we FINALLY get to see the last of the original 5. That is a big deal to me.

Well to the rest of the world he made an hugely successful X-Men movie. For Hollywood it is all about the $$$ of course so he is pretty secure on that front.

It is just the actual Fans of the X-Men who are not very happy with him.

Go wheel out Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker so you can collect a paycheck. What a tool. FRICK!!! While Im on the hater-ade bandwagon... i think his "Im fat and trying to hide it with this beard"-beard and open dress shirt with obligatory overflowing chest hair just scream casting couch rapist. The Ratner hate is a little overboard . . . the guy was chosen to direct X3 at the last second after Singer bailed out for Superman Returns. The script was already written, casting already done. Brett Ratner is not the one who chose to kill off Cyclops or any other part of the plot.

He didn't have the months and months of pre-production it normally takes to plan out those action scenes and the rest of the movie.

I'm not saying he's a great filmmaker. Just that the guy is not mostly to blame for the crappy things in X3.

I'm not sure myself how the new Superman movie will turn out but with Zack Snyder on board I think the action scenes and visuals will be amazing. I wonder how much of an influence Nolan will have now that WB didn't take on his brother like it was previously thought.

@DukeAcureds2010, that sounds like an awesome movie, lol, Probably not what Zack will end up doing.

to the people who said the action in X3 was better than in X-men and X2:

Every scene, including the action scenes in X3 sucked major. Bryan Singer's X-men films were brilliant. Action? The opening scene of X2 with Nightcrawler's break into the whitehouse is one of the best openings to a comic book movie ever. The scene in X2 with Wolverine going berserk on those soldiers in the mansion was better than all the scenes in Origins and X3. By the end of X3, it felt like no one was even in the movie because of how many freaking mutants they tried to fit into what felt like 60 minutes (not in a good way like time flew by but in the bad way like wow this movie sucked and was a waste of time). I think Cyclops killed himself in X3 so he wouldn't have to be seen in the rest of that heap of garbage. Brett Ratner makes funny movies with Chris Tucker and Bryan Singer is one of the best young directors alive who gave us The Usual Suspects and the first 2 X-men (the first of which started this curent super hero craze so many years later, even more than Blade did. Yes, Superman Returns wasn't amazing but at least it looked iconic. So can the people who are for some reason defending X3 and Brett Ratner (who sounds like a whiny tool in this vid)please be silent and lets hope the Comic book film community keeps giving jobs to directors like Singer, Snyder, and Aronofsky who are directors we can get excited about and not Ratner and Schumacher (yea I'm lumping them together).

Sorry for the heart attack. It was of course in jest. My humours a little weird, today.
I've got faith in Zack. It'll be good. At least he hasn't cast Nic Cage (yet).
