wow i thought marvel had tight security! lol... cool hope the origin takes place in the credits though... but idk...

origin should be told in the credits,don't want half the film wasted with the f*ckin origin.

But still, even counting Smallville, its been 10 years since we've seen the beginning. So it might not be that bad of a thing.

Me too, most of the complaints people are having just sound ridiculous to me.

My guess would be throughout the movie would be backflashes like he showed in watchmen, developing the story to get where we are in the present.

I doubt the origin will take place in the opening title sequence. If it does occur at this point in the movie then it could mean that Diane Lane and Kevin Costner have very little screen time. It would seem such a waste of these actors only for them to play such a minor role. So, I think the audience can expect an origin story that at least occupies about 40 minutes of the film.

Also, buildings in Plano (the high school, downtown area and a bus-crashes-in-river-scene) are being used for Smallville. Again, this leads me to assume that the origin will extend into the movie and not be incorporated into the opening titles.

Additionally, an origin would likely be necassary to establish a refreshed, relevant and relatable take on Clark Kent AND Superman and to explain the filmmakers angle on the character. It also helps setup a strong story arc for the character, but more importantly it could also notion that this film will operate on many layers. It could be detrimental to the film if was only about Superman vs Zod. It needs drama and action to work to mutual benefit. Saturating this film with violence (because other Superman movies were way more benign) will not make a successful movie.

Not to pick a nit with you Ror, but George Reeves wasn't the first actor to don the red cape. Kirk Alyn came before Geroge in the the 1940's serials.

Also, the first hour won't just be in Smallville. Clark will meet Lois, Jimmy, Perry, and there's other hero stuff that can be done. Although, how they will make Zod threatening (As in a seriously taken villain), or a well fleshed out character, if they do this, I don't know.

A great idea though would be for Clark and Zod to land at the same time. Maybe Zod is raised by Luthor's and Clark by the Kents, and how one became a hero to the world, whilst the other a villain.

But the biggest problem with Superman Returns wasn't just lack of action, but lack of character development. The characters and their motivations were confusing (Especially Lois and Superman's) and never properly explained. By starting from the beginning it will be clear where all the characters stand (If done properly).

And with Zod as a villain, I'm sure there'll be some kick ass action.

[email protected] was the last time we saw an origin story? 1978? ok....lets not freak out about this...it will not be the same as the previous version...similar but not the same...no reason to think it will be boring just because its a origin story.

I agree the origin should be shown in the first one I also want to see Snyder's take on Krypton that will be awesome. Also not everyone knows the origin outside the comic community I was reading an article the other day from a movie website about Dian Lane playing Martha and someone in the comments said they thought Superman was raised by his aunt. lol

Destruction of Krypton should be the opening credits, with it ending with the Kents finding Kal-El. Skip ahead to Clark leaving for Metropolis, and have flashbacks of the Kents but don't spend too much time on the SMallville years.

An origin is totally necessary. And they can introduce Zod during the first few scenes on Krypton.

Origins are a completely UNnecesary unless you're under the age of 6 or if you've lived under a [frick]ing rock!!!!

So...I guess just have Superman flying around, fighting, etc. If an orgin is not needed, then they should skip over the entire Lois Lane/Clark Kent/Superman love triangle as well, because we all know that exists, right? Or wait, why even bother showing Superman as Clark Kent because we all KNOW that's his alter ego...

Honestly, if film makers made fils to please only comic book fans they would consist of heroes flying around, fighting, destroying things, etc...Absolutely no development of the character since we all know who Superman is.

For every generation of people that know all about Superman, there is a younger generation that doesn't. Well, they do but not the details of his orgin. Let's face it, comic sales are in the toilet so it's not like the youth of today are running to comic book shops to gain knowledge of the heroes. These films and to a lesser extent the animated series and animated films are the new generations introduction to these characters.

The first film will have to set up some sort of orgin for the reasons previously stated: To build the character, to explain who he is, etc. Honestly, without an orgin story, the character will seem flat and one dimensional, even though the majority of people "know" all about his orgin. You need to see this charcter grow in a 2 hour film. On orgin, although not a long one, is crucial. Again, there are ways around it so that it's not "boring" or take up too much screen time.

As far as Diane Lane and Kevin Costner being A list actors and them not being brought in without having a lot of screen time...Morgan Freeman is far better actor that has, what can be considered a bit part in Begins. Exactly how much screen time does Sam Jackson have in Iron Man. It's not about how much "time" they have, it's about what they bring to it. How they enhance the story.

True but he was crucial in him being Batman, to a certain degree. The same can be said about the new Spiderman. Martin Sheen and Sally Field are in it. High caliber actors. I'm sure they aren't the stars though and I down they will have a huge amount of screen time. The Kents are crucial but I don't think all of their screen time will be devoted to the orgin as well. I'm thinking they break from tradition and have pa Kent live and they will continue to shape Clark/Superman throughout the story.

Either way, I'm growing more hungry for this film the more that comes out. I really do believe this is the film we all want for Superman when it comes down to it. EXCEPT that it won't be a shared universe. That is something WAY more disturbing to me than having an orgin story.
