Henry Cavill Talks About His Man Of Steel Workout

According to the NY Times, Cavill's body is being "fine tuned and tweaked" for the upcoming installment in the Superman Franchise.

Cavill, who just finished filming Immortals had this to say about his workout for Snyder's "old school and buff" Superman.

Cavill in Immortals

Cavill spent months on Tarsem’s Immortals, maintaining six percent body fat, and, he jokes, competing with his co-stars to see 'who had the best abs,'" Movieline reports, following an investigation. "I'm not quite in Immortals shape like I was, but I’ve got the base there again," Cavill said. "When you see the Immortals shape you’ll see what I mean. We obviously haven’t had the final brief yet [on 'Superman shape'], it’s going to adapt and change as [my trainer] sees my body adapting to the training. He’ll go, ‘Okay, Henry can do this,’ or, ‘His body will look better like that.’ It’ll be fine-tuned and tweaked as we go along. But I think it’s going to be a different sort of shape from Immortals.

Gotta see some Immortals footage.
He looked ripped in the one pic we saw but I think besides the muscle definition he had, he needs more muscle mass.

From what I've seen of the guy in general, he seems to have wider hips on his frame.
More upper-body mass would probably work best for him in the Superman suit.

He'll need to be Hemsworth big for Superman to work.

Steroids will help no doubt. He will easily reach Hemsworth/Bale(BB) big if he has a trainer and dietition. Cavill will define Superman.

then:
Trenboline-A
Masterone
Equipoise
Test prop
and 10 IU HGH x day

Thats Superman right there

He needs more height to be Hemsworth big. He just doesn't have the stature to be that big. He can bulk up, but he doesn't have a long torso to make him have the imposing stature that I would like to see. That is one of my main issues with Cavill. He's smaller than me and I am no Superman. He can end up looking bulky and big given the right 'roids and workout routine, but there is no way he will have that tall powerful build, which I am not sure how that will come across for Superman. They'll make it look okay on screen, but it just annoys me knowing different than what the screen shows.

i'm still not sold on this guy. he doesn't look like the "man's man" type guy that superman should resemble.

That third and fourth boob you're probably thinking about is the lower ends of his rib cage as seen in most artist's comic book renditions and statuettes

rbfn04@ Superman should look like he has always been depicted...a tall imposing Man of Steel, not a lean, smaller guy, and "ripped" means a combination of muscle definition AND size. By standard fitness definition you can't be ripped without having the mass as well. You can be toned or lean. I don't want him to look like a bodybuilder, but I would like to see a larger statured Superman. We just won't have that this time around.

SKGannbit@ That has always been my challenge with him as well. If you met him in person, you would be even more concerned. ;-)

i think that photoshop pic that some posters have here of him with his arms crossed is where he should probably be.

he's not 6-3, so 225 isn't where he's supposed to be.

SelinaKyle@ I do a lot of nonprofit/charity work and met him at an event. That's why I have some strong concerns that don't coincide with what most people feel about him getting the part. I am 6'1" on the button and he is a tad shorter than me, maybe not an inch, but close and is smaller in frame than me. I've got a solid 20 lbs on him and I am in pretty decent shape and most people wouldn't look at me and go, "wow, that guy could be the Man of Steel". On screen they will do what it takes. Hence, a petite Lois Lane. He's also not the most manly man but his acting will cover that up as well.
bubba27
bubba27 - 4/2/2011, 4:32 PM
He's a inch and half shorter than Routh and 2 shorter than Reeves come on people that's no big difference and its nothing for these pro trainers to about 20 or so pounds of muscle.Lets be a little more patient before condemn him.

@Ranger14
If he is say six foot and three quarters pop on some 2 inch lifts and he's good.Bottom line the guy can act and has a real presence about him.IMO

@bubba27: Thank you! I agree. He's still above 6 feet so who cares. He's tall enough.

I never met him in person but seeing The Tudors, he seemed like a real man's man to me. If he's not like that in real life than he is a much greater actor than I thought. He'll do fine. Scratch that - he'll do incredibly great! He's the best choice by far and I can't wait for him to prove the doubters wrong.

@JULEZ13

Yeah i just got fed up with all the complaining about his height and i especially hate the talk of his size I'm naturally 250lbs and muscular and i stick out like a sore thumb. If this movie is indeed set in a more "real" world than how could Henry Cavill play mild mannered Clark Kent and blend in when he looks like a body builder. He should be reasonably buff like he may work out not eat steroids for breakfast
JULEZ13
JULEZ13 - 4/2/2011, 5:39 PM
@bubba27: lol Yeah. I would prefer it if he doesn't use steroids. And I'm sure Henry would try to avoid it to considering the terrible long term effects that they impose.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 4/2/2011, 5:39 PM
bubba@ Lifts do not make your torso or stature look bigger. It simply adds inches to the bottom of your feet.

rbfm04@ Yes...and no.

We all have our views. I prefer a larger and more imposing Superman and he doesn't have to have a bodybuilder physique to do that, but lifts on his heels certainly won't make him look bigger in frame. Just in height. I know plenty of guys who are 6'3" that are have a solid build, but don't "stick out" when they are in a suit or regular street clothes. Christopher Reeve was 6'4" by the way. ;-)

JULE@ It's all good. Most people haven't met him, so they aren't going to care. You just care what he will look like on screen. It just ruins the believability factor for me, so that is why I am struggling with it.

Ranger 14 is on the money. Cavill is a stick. "Ripped" or not, he can't weigh more than a buck 70. Superman is supposed to be 6'-4"-ish, and 220-230 lbs. The height can be fudged with shoe lifts, but Cavill will struggle to get to 190. How do they propose to fake 30-40 pounds of muscle?

I disagree Superman shouldn't look ripped but big he has never exactly looked just ripped he is supposed to be body builder big he is after all SUPERMAN! Now if I were them I would have Cavill work on his shoulders because right now they are WAY to small his abs are fin but that's all anybody seems to care about anymore where the rest of his upper body looks frail in comparison. Get the man some shoulders and arms and he will start to look like Superman in my opinion. How tall is he anyways?
