Denise Crosby from Beacon News (an Edition of the Chicago Sun Times) got the chance to interview Plano's mayor, Bob Hausler, and residents. Whilst the mayor has not yet received final confirmation from Warner Brothers he has been in talks with Hollywood for weeks.
“One of the things Warner Bros. told us,” said Hausler, “was they not only loved our great looking buildings, it was the friendliness and helpfulness of the people.”
Here is an excerpt from the report that hints at possible filming locations within Plano:
Plano Chamber of Commerce President Rich Healy was more elated than the mayor. Just last week he’d gotten a call from a Warner Bros. front man about a piece of Rotary Club-owned property down by the Fox River (leased to the Boy Scouts) that might have to be cleared for a bus-crashes-in-river scene. Other sites could include Centennial School, built in the ’50s; and of course, the city’s downtown
The Chicago Tribune has released a report regarding the Plano residents’ hype:
"It's on everyone's lips," Plano Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Marlene Kee said of the movie, "Superman: Man of Steel." "You can't go anywhere without hearing people talking about it."
.
The same article also cites Naperville a possible location for the film’s production office.
"It would not be unreasonable for them to select a suburban location like Naperville," said Illinois Film Office spokeswoman Marcelyn Love. "Details are very preliminary right now."
Filming of the new Superman movie (code named “Autumn Frost) will take place in the Chicago area starting in August.
Superman: Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, is slated for December 2012 release.
