Another 8 Seasons For Smallville? Green Arrow Actor, Justin Hartley Seems To Think So!

The actor spoke to SciFi Wire about the future of the show and his character Oliver Queen...

When asked on the future of the show Hartley said, "Look, the producers are so busy right now, they don’t know if they’re doing one more season or eight more seasons or two more seasons. They have no idea. So we’ll see. I’ve spoken to them a couple weeks ago and had kind of a vague conversation with them about concept and stuff.”

He also went on to talk about where his character may be heading in season 9, “I know there’s a couple of saves gone awry,” he revealed. “I think Oliver might be drinking again, which is always fun to play. So we’ll see what happens. I’ll leave that up to the brain trust.” and when asked if Green Arrow will be facing off against new villains Metallo and Zod he said, “I hope so. I always like to work with new actors. We just got this guy. I guess they hired a gentleman a couple days ago, so hopefully. We’ll see what happens.”

However the main question now should be, Can Smallville really last another EIGHT seasons in its current format or is it time to take the show in a new direction?

Hey Josh this is funny. I actually posted on one of the other sites where we were arguing over who should play caps. And I said on a serious note that it should be Justin hartley. He's a decent actor and sure looks the part.

It would be much better if they could just settle on one final season (and maybe Metropolis movie?) so they can put their all into it and not try and string it out and eventually getting cancelled instead.

Yeah seriously I doubt that they would do 8 more seasons, by that time the show would be so old no one would even tune in anymore.

i love the show, but 2 more seasons tops. I don't even think it'll be that many, though tom is signed for 2 more.

WHAT THEY NEED TO DO-SERIOUSLY-GET TO WHAT FANS WANNA SEE...I GET IT..I GET IT..YOU WANNA TELL THE STORY OF CLARK KENT AND HIM BECOMING SUPERMAN,YOU DID IT, HONESTLLY YOU DID..ITS TIME FOR METROPLOLIS-JUMP TO A NEW SERIES ALTOGETHER-RENAME THE SHOW TO METROPOLIS-HECK THEYRE THERE THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.THE ONLY REASON YOU STILL CALL THE SHOW SMALLVILLE IS BECAUSE CLARK LIVES ON THE FARM STILL..THATS IT.I SAY GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT..WELLING IS SHOWING MORE SUPERMAN THAN SUPER BOY OR EVEN SUPER TEEN FOR THAT MATTER.I SAY PUT HIM IN THE SUIT, PITT HIM AGAINST THE ILLAINS OF DC, SO WHAT IF YOUR THINKING OF MAKING A REBOOT ON THE SILVERSCREEN, TV AND FILM ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS-TRUST ME THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT-PUT THE SUIT ON-BRING IT UP TO SPEED WHERE WE SEE IT ALL FINALLY HAPPEN.YOU CANT KEEP MAKING CLARK NOT FLY FOR THIS MANY SEASONS SUPERBOY NEVER HAPPENED..SERIOUSLY, YES I AGREE-AT LEAST 2 MORE SEASONS BUT GET ON THE BALL-PEOPLE WANNA SEE THE CULMINATION OF ALL OF SMALLVILLE-GO RENAME THE SHOW METROPOLIS-KINDA LIKE A SPIN OFF BUT MORE OF LIKE A JUMPER TO A NEW DIRECTION.

They need to wrap it up. It was fun for a while but he's been "Superboy" for too long. They need to finally make him Superman. TV movie would be cool.

I think he was just saying they're not done planning yet and literally thinking of doing another 8 seasons, which is a godsend...this show Should have ended a while ago. It was great and now it's just painful to watch. I usually change the channel 5 min. in

ANOTHER 8 seasons? I'm sorry, I love Smallville but I think this next season needs to be the last. If he's not Superman after fighting DOOMSDAY, when will he become him?!

8 seasons??? What Twilight zone are you living in lol???

After DOOMSDAY they will be lucky if they finish season 9!!! ; )

Best thing CW Network can do, is finish season 9, wrap it up, do that christmas tv movie to finish it, then do a GREEN ARROW Spin off! First series no powers, make it gritty like NYPD BLUE/CSI type show in STAR City an go from there!

Though a couple of other spin offs would be nice = LOSH, SUPERGIRL, MAN HUNTER, etc etc, maybe CW can do more tv movie pilots an see what FLIES! Heh heh. ; D

Oh, i think everyone would love a L.E.G.I.O.N sci fi series! Come onnnn, its begging to be made!!! You know from the nineties comics with L.E.G.I.O.N set in the present in space (Like GREEN LANTERN is) with guest stars like LOBO etc too! The DC Universe is a big place!

With V and ALIEN NATION coming out, why not do something too that is more original an never been done before on the screen! BSG with Superpowers! You know it makes sense!!! ; )

LOL another 8 seasins of Smallville - Never!!

This should be the last season. Justin was just clutching at numbers to make a point.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 7/3/2009, 3:31 AM
jeez, some people dont get that the whole '8 Seasons' remark was JUST a headline!

anyway, i agree with GUNSMITH, if they're not going to finish Smallville up with Season 9 and then do a TV movie, then they should flash forward 3 years or something, rename the how Metropolis and take it in a new direction (hopefully with a new team of writers)

LEEE777
LEEE777 - 7/3/2009, 4:17 AM
JOSH @ Yeah new writers, or the present writers should look back at the first few seasons and see how SMALLVILLE should be done! Good call! ; )

GUNSMITH - 7/3/2009, 5:04 AM
YOU KNOW WHAT IVE NEVER SEEN, A LIVE ACTION SUPERMAN BUT IN A MOLDED OUT SUIT, KINDA LIKE THE OLD FLASH SERIES, YOU COULD SEE EVERY MUSCLE AND INDENTATION, IF THEY PUT A SUIT LIKE THAT ON WELLING, THAT WOULD SO MAKE ROUTH LOOK PUNY.I MEAN YOU LOOK AT ROUTH IN THE NEW SUIT,ITS COOL, BUT TO SEE A REAL COMIC BOOK REPRESENTATION, LIKE THE PICTURE BROUGHT OFF THE PAGE, I DUNNO, BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE A CHANGE AND SUPERMAN ON THE BIG OR SMALLSCREEN NEEDS A CHANGE.

Bring back Rosenbaum! That guy IS Lex Luthor!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 7/3/2009, 8:37 AM
They need to bring Lex back as a proper VILLAIN and forget all that stupid crap they did with the character in Season 8! I dont think that anyone can say Smallville is a well written TV show. The only way they could find to finally break up Lana and Clark was to pretty much turn her into Kryptonite! Just when Clark was moving on with Lois and slightly resembling Superman they brought Lana back-either end it or make it better just dont carry on with the way its going-utter shit!

Anil Rickley: Oliver Queen is definitely a poor man's version of Tony Stark and a weak imitation of the relationship between Superman and Batman.

Teabag: if they bring Lana back AGAIN i think ill lose it and go and murder every writer and producer of the show! still, at least that would mean they would hire a new team of writers etc so it could work out for the best even if i spend the rest of my life in prison, lol. On second thoughts-its probably not worth it...

Jetsaholic: then you should watch Supernatural which is on right after-that is much, much better than Boresville!

LEEE777
LEEE777 - 7/3/2009, 8:55 AM
I dunno JOSH @ SUPERNATURALS about the same level as SMALLVILLE! Sorry but it is! : D

Damn, SMALLVILLE used to be the best show about, now its written by 5 year olds??? WTF happened lol!

Still i love the DC Universe guest stars! If it wasn't for them i probably wouldn't bother! ; )
superdog
superdog - 7/3/2009, 9:35 AM
I still like smallville....but like younsaid lee777 it's the only comic based show on right now so it's all we got. At least until they make a wolverine show. Now that would be cool :)
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 7/3/2009, 9:38 AM
LEE: Supernatural is 1000x better whether you like Ackles or not! Its developed a story from the first episode that has carrid on throughout the past 4 seasons! there have been a few duff episode but overall it is fantastic (and this is coming from someone who normally hates supernatural type tv shows!) Plus, Jeffery Dean Morgan aka The Comedian from Watchmen was in the show! Seeing what a great actor he was in SN convinced me to go see Watchmen, otherwise i probably wouldnt have bothered!
superdog
superdog - 7/3/2009, 10:01 AM
That's what made you go see watchmen? Wow
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 7/3/2009, 10:21 AM
superdog: i hadnt even heard of or read Watchmen before i saw the trailer. I didnt know any of the other actors but when i saw that Morgan was in it i bought the graphic novel and gave it a try (which i thought was ok but not all that great). What actors are in a film make a huge difference whether i would go and see it or not! I hate John Cena so wouldnt go and see any movie that he's in!
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 7/3/2009, 10:22 AM
Superdog @ That would be cool!!! I know just the right actor to play WOLVERINE! That guy that's on GILMORE GIRLS (no i don't watch that lol), the guy with the cap, he's like the spitting image of HUGH JACKMAN! Good actor too!

JOSH @ You only went to see the WATCHMEN coz someone in SUPERNATURAL was in it??? Oh my,,, Have you ever read the book??? GEEZUZ!!!

Sorry JOSH @ I see it here and there, but SUPERNATURAL ain't a show i wait an watch every week! Ackles or not, it ain't that a great show! Its okay, k! : D

There's much better show's on than that im afraid to say! (Well i ain't lol).

JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 7/3/2009, 10:52 AM
LEE: no, i read the graphic novel before I went to see it (which as i said above was ok) but i probably wouldnt have done that if i hadnt have known that there was one of my favourite actors in it-its irrelevent whether he was in Supernatural or not! If you dont watch Supernatural then you know nothing about it, lol so how can you say its not a good tv show!?!
TheDurkinKnight
TheDurkinKnight - 7/3/2009, 11:58 AM
I think Green Arrow needs his own show, heavy on martial arts a la "Alias", keep the budget low. It can be good stuff.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 7/3/2009, 12:00 PM
Anil Rickly: that was one of the greatest finale's to a TV show that iv ever seen! The guy who plays Castiel is a brilliant actor-ive been trying to think what comic book movie roles he could play but cant think of any! any ideas?

TheDurkinKnight: i agree but i think that it would have to be one of those shows that only has a 13 episode season because im not sure the character could warrent 22 episodes unless they had a really strong supporting cast.
