A life-size statue of the late Christopher Reeve - best known for his role as Superman in four films from 1978 to 1987 - will be on display at the upcoming L.A. Times' Hero Complex Film Festival, staring on June 11th. Sculptor Mike Hill tells LA Times the following...

“This figure was sculpted in clay from various stills of Mr. Reeve. The sculpture was then reproduced in silicone rubber and fiberglass. The skin is painted in layers to reflect human skin tones. The acrylic eyes are custom made to match Reeve's own. Each hair is punched [into place] one at a time. The costume is an exact replica of the original.

Fans can photograph themselves with the Man of Steel on June 11, when the statue is displayed at the festival, where both Superman and Superman II: The Donner Cut will be screened.

“I made this piece to remind me of my youth,” says Hill. “As adults we forget the magic moments that forged our childhood dreams. For me Superman still ignites that little boy who couldn’t afford popcorn watching an uplifting and incredibly exciting superhero save the planet. I believed a man could fly … and I still do.”

Who's planning on getting their photograph with Superman (if you're going to the Hero Complex Festival, that is)?

Even in death, Chris Reeve is a true man of steel. As I said before make us proud Henry, Chris did.

Not a reeve-fan. But as a lifelong and hardcore SUPERMAN-fan...I gotta pay my respect.

Jesus Christ! Reeve was OK but it is past time to move on. We need a new, modern Superman movie. Hopefully MOS will kickass and people will finally stop talking about Reeve and Donner. Their day ended decades ago.

@hatrick3- Y'know dude...I agree with you 100% but every time i say something negative about reeve or donner no matter how small, all the uber-sensitive nerds here on cbm start attacking me like a pack of hornets.

But i agree with you dude...I'm tired of the reeve/donner homages and stuff. It's got to stop.

@baneKill77-I suppose I enjoy stating my opinion as much as the next guy. Maybe someone who matters will read enough comments from a significant number of fans and we won't get another movie based on something from 1978. But thanks for proving LP4 right.

Aren't you ready for a new, modern and epic Superman? One where you don't see Kal-El's ship dangling on a thread as it takes off. One in which Superman isn't a deadbeat babydaddy. And why does Reeve get a pass for III and IV? Anything positive he may have brought to Superman was completely negated by those two pieces of box office Kryptonite. Horrible movies! The Fliesher cartoons are way better.
