In Black Adam's mid-credits scene, Henry Cavill finally returned as Superman. That's been a long time coming, and the future is finally looking bright for his Man of Steel in the DCU.
For a while there, it looked as if his time as Superman might be at an end, with the old regime at Warner Bros. clearly determined to move on from Cavill's iteration of the hero. Dwayne Johnson pushed for that to change, of course, and thanks to him, the new DCU has its Man of Tomorrow.
Talking in the video below, the actor reflected on shooting the secretive post-credits scene. "It's one of those things which we shot in secret in the U.K., and every one amazingly kept quiet about it," he explained. "We were at a studio, so it was all locked down. No one gets in."
Right up until the movie started screening - and Johnson spilt the beans in an effort to build excitement for Black Adam - Cavill's cameo was kept under wraps. That's impressive these days, and The Witcher star would go on to credit The Rock, Danny Garcia, and Hiram Garcia for "working very hard to make this happen."
"Over many years of conversation, it got to a point where they said, 'Right, okay, we are green-lit for this." Cavill added, "So I slipped into the suit and came to work."
Pushed on whether there are plans for him to now star in a solo outing, Cavill chose his words carefully but strongly hinted that we'll see him flying into action as Superman in his own movie again soon. "I can't say anything official on what will or won't be happening, but there are murmurings," he teased. "We'll see."
Warner Bros. Discovery is said to be taking pitches from writers, so we're assuming a new Superman movie will come together quite quickly. Christopher McQuarrie has been named as a potential director, though there are also rumblings online that James Gunn is a contender.
