Get ready to see a lot of Isabela Merced over the course of the next few years.
After starring in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, she'll next be seen in Madame Web as Araña. She'll then appear in Alien: Romulus in an undisclosed role before joining The Last of Us season 2 as Ellie's romantic interest Dina. That all culminates in Merced appearing in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy as the ferocious Thanagarian warrior, Hawkgirl.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Merced briefly described what the screen test process was like for Legacy.
“I was directed by [Gunn] during the [screen] test for [Superman: Legacy], because I auditioned for this. I got to do [the screen test] with my other castmates, and that was really cool. It felt very professional; it was almost like a legitimate shooting day,” Merced told THR.
“So I’ve already learned so much about his process, and this man … has the best of the best working for him and they’ve worked together for so long that it’s only up to me to mess it up.”
She went on to add that she's striving to give the fans the version of Hawkgirl that they deserve.
"I hope that I can understand and take notes and continue training and just be healthy throughout it all. Then I’ll be able to give the fans the performance they deserve."
Along with the rest of the Legacy cast, Merced has been revealing her workout results on Instagram and she's definitely toned up over the last few weeks.
If Legacy proves successful, the next question for Merced and DCU fans will be where will Hawkgirl turn up next? Will she receive a standalone film, maybe alongside Hawkman, or is her role in the DCU to be an integral team member of the Justice League or JSA?
