SUPERMAN: LEGACY - It Doesn't Sound Like We Should Expect A Costume Reveal Anytime Soon

We're all eagerly awaiting a first look at Superman: Legacy's Man of Steel (David Corenswet) suited up, but new comments from James Gunn point to us needed to be patient for any sort of costume reveal.

Superman: Legacy casting news started making headlines on a semi-regular basis prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, with the Man of Steel, Lois Lane, and even Green Lantern among those added to the 2025 reboot.

Unfortunately, we won't get any additional updates - including who's playing Lex Luthor - until Hollywood studios do the right thing. Luckily, writer/director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn continues sharing the odd tidbit on social media, though this one likely isn't what many of you will be hoping to hear.

Asked by a fan on Instagram to "post the Superman suit already," the Superman: Legacy helmer responded by saying, "Not even slightly close to doing that."

Based on what little we know, the design process is still underway and it's possible a final decision still hasn't been made. In fact, it may not come until David Corenswet can try on variations of the iconic costume, so any reveals prior to the strike's conclusion would only be in the form of concept art.

There's really no reason for DC Studios to release anything like that for now, and we can't imagine they would want to until it's clear when work on Superman: Legacy can resume (current plans call for shooting to begin next January).

Alas, this also means we'll have to wait and see whether the Man of Tomorrow dons his trunks.

When DC Comics rebooted the DC Universe in 2011 as part of "The New 52" relaunch, Superman lost his familiar red underoos. While they'd eventually return, Zack Snyder also ditched them in 2013's Man of Steel and even The CW's Superman & Lois has only included them in brief flashbacks.

Many fans are hopeful Superman: Legacy will restore Clark Kent's classic look on screen, but Gunn recently said, "As we've done hundreds of designs, [giving Superman the trunks is] most definitely not that simple."

"Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas," reads the movie's synopsis. "He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned."

David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.

This movie is 22 months away and it already looks like $#!+ as far as i'm concerned.

The only movies from DC i will watch in the next years are:
2023: Aquaman 2
2024: Joker 2
2025: Batman 2

@MarvelZombie616 - How can you say that based off a few casting choices and very small minute details? How? HOW?!

@MarvelZombie616 - Lol, I don't believe anyone on this website will skip a Superman movie.

Sure you might not watch it in theaters, but you'll see it at some point later.

At the end of the day, the biggest thing will be the trunks/no trunks and the design of the S. I don’t see them going crazy and doing anything unexpected with the suit

Vanity project!

Either way I'm not excited for the costume reveal, costumes have never been one of Gunns strengths.

No, you mean when the unions get those sticks out of their a$$es and actually consider a compromise. This is what the studios offered that was rejected

Maybe if Gunn gave social media a break he’d have more time to actually work on his projects and have some examples to show. It’s been nearly a year since he took over and we haven’t seen shit, it’s just him always on Twitter either whining or bitching. 🤷‍♂️

The actor is hitting the gym, he’s bulking up, or that may be on pause because of the strike, either way, we have to wait, maybe at San Diego Comic Con, if the strike is over soon.
