Despite being better received than its predecessor, Paramount PicturesTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows only managed to earn just around $236 million at the worldwide box office, which is a little less than half of the first installment's final sum. It's a little tough to say what exactly led to this dip in performance between the two, but being released a week after 20th Century Fox's eagerly awaited X-Men sequel X-Men: Apocalypse probably didn't help its cause. Also, the previous film was able to benefit from a box office run in a relatively dry August & September of 2014 where it only saw major competition in the form of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Earlier today, Paramount Home Media Distribution issued a press release, officially announcing the upcoming home video release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows. The Dave Green-directed feature is set to arrive on Digital HD on September 6 and will hit 4K Ultra HD, 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD two weeks later on September 20.

They also unveiled the full list of special features, which include over 40 minutes of awesome bonus content. The Blu-ray Combo Pack will also come with reversible Turtle Masks in all four colors, meaning you'll be able to cosplay as your favorite Ninja Turtle in just a few short weeks time! Check out the full list of special features and the cover art below:

The first film was awful and that's why audiences stayed home second time around.

I hope this franchise gets a reboot at a new studio that respects the property better. Platinum Dunes is just poison.

@CaptainN3 - I liked the first film. It was stupider than Hell, yes but fun nonetheless. The second film was outright moronic and lacked any fun. And Stephen Amell's Casey Jones was simply horrid but I mostly blame the writers for that. However, I solidly cosign the latter part of your post.

As a TMNT fan, I didn't see this one in theatres because I was so disappointed with the 2014 reboot. I'll have to rent this one to see if it's an improvement before deciding whether or not to see the next one (though I wouldn't mind a proper reboot).

@Darkknight2149 - It depends on your tolerance for stupid. If it's not high, you'll hate the sequel even more than it's predecessor.

I saw the first one at home solely because after Transformers 4 I made a vow to never pay theater money to see a Michael Bay movie ever again.
