TMNT 2 Starts Filming This April, Producers Talk Bebop And Rocksteady

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form discuss when the sequel begins filming and their excitement to be able to include Bebop and Rocksteady in the second installment.

By MarkJulian - Jan 14, 2015 01:01 PM EST
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earned Paramount and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes $477.2M USD at the global box office from an estimated budget of $125M USD.  It nearly quadrupled its production budget so it's not a total shocker that Paramount is moving forward with a sequel. Today, Collider caught up with the film's producers   Brad Fuller and Andrew Form to discuss Project Almanac but also slipped a couple of TMNT 2 questions. The duo stated that there were simply too many character to be introduced in the first outing for Bebop and Rocksteady to be included but they'll be there in the sequel.  "We designed and we did lots of work on all of them and then only so many fit in the box and luckily we have another chance to make another one of these movies and some of those characters that got cut out of the first one can make it into the second one.”

A brief update on when the sequel starts filming was also shared. "We’re in prep right now. We start shooting in New York in April.”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will hit US theaters on June 13, 2016.  Earth to Echo director David Green replaces Jonathan Liebesman in the director's chair.  Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec return to pen the sequel.  Fan favorite NYC vigillante Casey Jones also rumored to appear.

I just finally saw this movie a few weeks ago...and it was awesome. Critics and whiny fanboys be damned, it was great. A hell of a lot of fun. Mikey and Donnie were definitely the standouts of it too. The only problem I had with the movie, was Will Arnett. He's a very funny guy, but 90% of his humour fell flat for me.

That's great news, Hopefully we'll hear any news on casting in the next couple of weeks.

Merc, I liked it too. It was entertaining as long as you didn't go in thinking you were going to see a cinema classic on par with The Green Mile.

How often is a sequel better than the original?

Especially if the first one majorly sucked balls?

@blackandyellow

Probably the best camera shot in the whole movie. She may be a terrible actress...but what a body.

And I know better what movies to go in to just looking to be entertained. You can usually tell just by the subject matter. Mutant Turtles? Not looking for arthouse theatre on that one.

I hope they tweak the design of the Turtles. Actually making them look like turtles would be a good start!

The movie was a lot of fun. The whole April story arc was incredibly dumb, but who can lame them for wanting to showcase Megan Fox's assets.

@batmannightwingrobin

For the same reason people hate on anything Michael Bay does. They expect unrealistic things from a popcorn director. That being said, even I've given up on Transformers. Dark of the Moon ruined it for me...not because of lack of substance or bad story or anything like that, but because I didn't like the lack of Megan Fox, and Shia and Patrick Dempsey both annoyed me so much they ruined the movie. And I couldn't take Leonard Nimoy seriously as the villain. He's so typecast as Spock that it takes you right out of the movie.

And while I'm offering free, unsolicited casting advice:

Recast April O'Neil with Karen Gillan!
