Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earned Paramount and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes $477.2M USD at the global box office from an estimated budget of $125M USD. It nearly quadrupled its production budget so it's not a total shocker that Paramount is moving forward with a sequel. Today,
Collider caught up with the film's producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form to discuss
Project Almanac but also slipped a couple of TMNT 2 questions. The duo stated that there were simply too many character to be introduced in the first outing for Bebop and Rocksteady to be included but they'll be there in the sequel.
"We designed and we did lots of work on all of them and then only so many fit in the box and luckily we have another chance to make another one of these movies and some of those characters that got cut out of the first one can make it into the second one.”
A brief update on when the sequel starts filming was also shared. "
We’re in prep right now. We start shooting in New York in April.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will hit US theaters on June 13, 2016. Earth to Echo director David Green replaces Jonathan Liebesman in the director's chair. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec return to pen the sequel. Fan favorite NYC vigillante Casey Jones also rumored to appear.
