This upcoming
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has rubbed many hardcore fans up the wrong way, for a variety of reasons -- but one of the major ones was the casting of the decidedly non-Japanese William Fichtner as classic Turtles baddie, The Shredder. It appeared that the character was going to be renamed "Eric Sachs", and have a completely different origin to the incarnation we're used to; but now this latest trailer suggests differently. In it we glimpse Fichtner's character speaking to a shadowed individual, telling him he's going to upgrade his armor. Cut to, assumedly, shadowed man in said armor, about to lay the smackdown on Splinter. Well, here's a better look at him:
Handsome fella. So what's going on? It would
seem that this man is in fact Oroku Saki, aka the Shredder, and that this Sachs guy is funding him and his Foot Clan in some way. There's no listing of Saki as a character anywhere, so perhaps he'll only play a very small role in the movie and Fichtner will eventually wear the Shredder armor..or, Saki will actually be the real lead villain, and this fact was kept secret. We'll find out soon enough, but what do you guys make of it?
