Jack Huston Exits THE CROW Remake; Nicholas Hoult & Jack O’Connell Eyed As Replacements

What is it with this movie and its leading men? First Luke Evans dropped out, and now his replacement (Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston) has also left the project due to a scheduling conflict. Word is, though, the studio is already looking at new actors to step into the main role of Eric Draven...

Corin Hardy's remake of The Crow has lost another leading man. According to Variety, Jack Huston has had to step away from the project because of scheduling conflicts. Huston (Boardwalk Empire, American Hustle) would have played the lead role of Eric Draven; a guitarist who is murdered along with his girlfriend, and is resurrected one year later to seek vengeance on their killers.

“Jack Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on The Crow,” Hardy said in a statement. “‘The Crow’ is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.”

Apparently Relativity is already looking at Nicholas Hoult and Jack O’Connell, among others, as possible replacements. Earlier today we found out that Forest Whitaker was in talks to play Ernie Hudson's cop character from the original, and Andrea Riseborough will play the villainous Top Dollar.

No one will ever top Brandon Lee. But Id be interested to see what they do differently this time. Too bad Joseph Gordon-Levitt is unavailable.

@TheOracularNerd - I have simultaneously gained and lost repsect for you with that last statement. Lost because it's a cult classic. It's a great action/revenge drama, and has some great performances from the Late Brandon Lee, and the great Michael Wincott as the villainous Top Dollar. I gained respect for you because you know of the Crow but have never seen the movie. Have you read the comics?

I want this movie to happen because I'd really like to see someone else's vision of the story, especially with some of the aspects of the comic that are left out of the film. That being the inherent madness returning from the dead seems to bring. In all the comics, all the protagonists aren't just upset/sad about losing those they loved, but because of the fact that they are ripped from some sort of peace in order to get their vengeance. That and I want the Skull Cowboy!! I really think both Huston and Evans would've rocked the role. Hoult is another good choice, but O'Connell is also a decent actor (I liked him in 300:Rise of an Empire)

@Snooper

i care, because people don't know that the original movie was not a proper comic book adaptation. There were many changes. Skull Cowboy scenes were filmed but cut from the movie. Can't say much because i'm still trying to take my lasy ass and read the comic book but i think you get my point of view.

Another lead man left. I'm getting suspicious that they are just going to copy the first movie and not focus on the comic. Shame.

we don't need this movie if it's gonna end as the copy of the first movie.
If this movie gonna reimagine the Erick Draven story and stick closer to the comic - i don't see a problem.

Watch the Crow ASAP, and listen to the soundtrack, probably one of the best soundtracks, ever. I'm sure you know the history behind the movie though

The only movie that is jinxed so that it can't be remade and messed up.

I love Jack Huston and he became one of my favorite things about BE but maybe this is a good thing. A movie taking this long with this many eff ups.....

Everyone who's ever been involved in a movie has exited this. Do we need to be reminded of the definition of insanity?
