Luke Evans Unafraid Of Any Superstitions Surrounding THE CROW

Actor Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug) is not afraid of any curse surrounding The Crow, says the reboot will be true to the original comic book from Cailber.

The Crow Caliber Luke Evans

There are some who think The Crow is a cursed production given the subject matter and the deaths of actor Brandon Lee and The Crow: Stairway to Heaven stuntman, Marc Akerstream. But Luke Evans is unfazed by any such rumors. Evans told The Metro, "I’m not one of those superstitious people. It is incredibly sad that Brendon died making the movie. He was a very talented actor. It is a very beautiful story, The Crow. It is a very tragic story with huge emotional themes. We plan to tell the story differently and with a lot of integrity to the original comic book."

Evans recent comments concerning the comic book source material are completely different from the statement he made back in May when he said his version would essentially be a remake of the original 1994 Brandon Lee film. Perhaps there's been a change in the script since then?

That original comic book was first published in 1989 by Caliber Comics. James. O'Barr stated that he wrote the comic as a way of dealing with the death of his girlfriend at the hands of a drunk driver. Filming on the reboot is expected to begin in 2014.

After a number of directors, writer and actors attached themselves and then dropped out, The Crow reboot looks set to begin filming at some point in 2014. Luke Evans will star as the titular protagonist. It's rumored that Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Kristen Stewart (On The Road) are also up for parts. Francisco Javier Gutiérrez will direct the feature.

It should not be a remake.
Just use the premise of a man wrongly killed seeking vengence & use THE CROW lore.
Make it a completly different guy.

It may turn out good,Evans has the right look & acting ability.
The modern movie effects will be better than the original but I dout anyone will surpass Brandon Lee as Eric Draven / The Crow.

The Crow is awesome. It should just be left alone.

It really doesn't matter if they remake it, if this turns out good then we have two great Crow films if not the original is still there no matter what.

not quite sure why this is being re-made its a cult classic, but overall theres nothing wrong with the movie at all, it stands well in the test of time, brandon lee pulled it off amazingly well, the characters, mood and setting was perfect, i cant see them doing this as an 18 or rated R whatever the classification is now, and thats whats going to hurt it...

also the actors i dont see luke evans doing a good enough job, kristen stewart makes a piece of cardboard look enthusiastic and i just cant see it working at all, too many classics are being remade and butchered , robocop as pg13 is going to be terrible, total recall was the same..... should deffo leave this alone its shown with the TV movies and series that it just doesnt work

So basically its gonna be Draven in a coma dreaming the events of the film like how he is in the comic...id rather just read the comic then.

As much as I love the original Crow movie, it really doesn't follow the comic (source material) at all. Clearly, few people on this website have ever read it.
If they stick to the source material, this could be a very different movie...

Due to the following the original film has developed over the years, including new viewers who are only just watching it for the first time, this remake won't be any good or well received whether it's truer to the original story or not. The original film has something of a melancholic feel to it boosted in part by the death of Brandon Lee, and it's a film people can go back to time and again and relive the final film in Lee's fledgling career. The entire cast made the original so memorable and with the visual style it had and the inimitable soundtrack, this will not be easily forgotten and I have very little faith that this remake can do it. You can't catch lightning in a bottle twice.

I personally can't wait. The fact that it will adhere to the comic more gives me a lot of hope. It will definitely be a different beast than the original. And No One Lives proves Evans can do badass and dark. Also liked him in 3 Musketeers.

Though I really like the original, it contained some pretty cheesy writing and acting......hopefully this one won't suffer from that.

No reason really to make this. Just like there's no reason to make Robocop in 2013.

the only problem i have with this remake is that they doing Draven story again.

Still, everytime someone was trying to do a new story with new character it all went down rather fast.
Hope for new, good Crow movie was gone when the Wicked Prayer hit the DVD shelves. Abomination. I stopped watching it after like half an hour.

anyway ... Bring on The Skull Cowboy. I'm interested in this character since he was cut out from the original movie.

They should be remaking The Crow: City of Angels instead and act as if it's in continuity with the Brandon Lee film. The Weinsteins butchered the film, literally, by cutting over an hour of footage out. Now, if you've enjoyed The Dark Knight trilogy or Man of Steel, you should be pleased to hear that David S. Goyer wrote the script and that it probably would have been a great sequel had it not been butchered so badly. So give us a director's cut, or just remake the film if the missing footage is lost (because they already have a solid script from Goyer, they just need to stick with the script this time and not forcefully try and make it like the original).

BRANDON LEE WAS AMAZING.... good luck topping that movie. If you pull it off all the better, but dont bet on it.

Still one of the best CBMs of all time.

Why not have the girlfriend be The Avenging lover in the Crow?
That would've been far better than trying to redo the original.

But if Luke Evans has some very bad luck or dies during or right after this film his death could be linked to a Crow or Fast And The Furious curse.
So it will be a unique situation for 'Curse' enthusiasts.

The Crow is one of the best CBM's ever and the first I ever saw. I love it. But I had never read the book. I got the book for my birthday last month and if this movie follows the book, the only similarities between this and the original will be the name and the name of the character. I'm all for it. It could be a get different film. Calm the F down people. You can't "remake" something that was adapted from another medium to begin with. It's still just an adaptation.

Ok, in no way will this diminish Brandon Lee's performance of the original film. Seriously, no one will forget Lee's legacy if they create this movie. There has been 4 other actors who have portrayed the "Crow" character already in sequels (granted they weren't playing Eric Draven) and I still will go back to the original as the defining "Crow" movie. I don't understand why all the hate for something that could possible be a great film at the end of the day.

Also The Crow: Wicked Prayer is freaking hilarious on how bad it is. Terrible preformances by Ed Furlong, Tara Reid and David Boreanaz. Oh yeah and Dennis Hooper is in it for a hot second to teach us on how to talk like a 60 year gansta. Sweet movie after a 30 pk. :)

@damntree

it was a breakthrough role for Lee back then.
Shame that he was never given given a chance to play more roles like that one.

Luke Evans has more acting talent in his little toe than Brandon Lee ever had.
