Production Stalls On THE CROW Reboot After Studio Goes Bankrupt

Is this movie ever going to get made? Not for a while, it seems. Despite enjoying a relatively productive few months, The Crow reboot recently lost its lead actor and has now hit an even bigger snag - one that may set it back for the foreseeable future. Hit the jump to find out the details!

The Crow reboot has hit another snag. THR is reporting that pre-production has completely stalled, with an entire production crew said to have left the project. The blame, this time, lies with the studio, Relativity Media, which filed for bankruptcy on Thursday. This is only the latest in a long line of disasters for the reboot, leaving it perennially stuck in development hell for years.

The project has so far endured a string of high profiling casting exists and a revolving door of directors. Its star, Jack Huston, only bowed out of the movie a few weeks ago - following on from Luke Evans' departure in January. Both actors were in line to play the lead role of 'Eric Draven' - a role made famous by Brandon Lee's iconic performance in the 1994 cult classic.

The project finally looked like it was picking up steam earlier this year, with Jessica Brown Findlay,
Andrea Riseborough and Forest Whitaker all in talks to co-star, but this latest hitch sounds like it could set it back for the near future. Are you disappointed by this news, or do you think it could be for the best? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Ah yeah, I saw that Relativity filed for bankruptcy this week and I had no idea Huston bowed out. Well, looks like that Crow reboot isn't happening.

I wasn't a hater of this reboot, I don't mind a reboot if they reboot from the comic and not reboot from the movie.
But it had a pretty good cast so far!
So this is sad news

Bankruptcy isn't necessarily a death blow. Depends if they're liquidating or reorganizing.

Relativity fired few days ago approximately 75 out of 350 fulltime job employees. They own like $320 mln to few companies (i think $320 mln as a whole). They are currently seeking help by talking to multimillionaires Carlos Slim Helu & Carl Icahn.

It's a sign that this movie should not be remade. EVER.

Some things you just don't [frick] with. Clearly, The Crow is one of them...

This is excellent, as i feel there should NEVER be a remake to this. Alex proyas and Brandon Lee made magic with eric draven, a remake is a slap in the face.

All these issues are clearly signs to steer clear from this project.

I've been hating on this project from the get-go.
There are some movies that should never be remade and The Crow is right up there with Citizen Kane.
But these are strange times. Robocop and Ghost Busters have both been remade. I never thought that Robocop should have been remade ever and they did it and I still think that it should never have been remade ever. Having said that, I was able to enjoy the new version, ever so slightly.
And GhostBusters? Well, it seems far enough away from the original and I'm just glad that they have finally got SOMEthing off the ground for that franchise. Also, the whole thing was my idea, despite what Paul Feig might tell you.

But The Crow? No way, man, that is where I draw the line.

At least until I saw this video, a few weeks back:

And then I kinda did a 180 on the whole thing.
Also, after Oblivion and Birdman, I love Andrea Riseborough and the idea of her playing Top Dollar seperates the project far away enough from the film and the comic.
So I'm really kind of ambivalent about the whole thing, now.
In a good way.
If it doesn't get made ever, then that is a good thing.
If it does get made and it's like J.O. Barr described it, in the above video, that is also a good thing.
If someone with a lot of money comes along and makes it with no respect for the comics or the original film, then... well that would be a bad thing. A very fvcking bad thing indeed.

Nobody needs this movie. Everything doesn't need to be remade. It generally means you're out of ideas.
