The Flash plot details continue to find their way online ahead of the movie's world premiere at CinemaCon a couple of days from now. We've already heard about a few cameos, but this latest rumor claims that the movie will feature an appearance from a certain character/actor combo nobody would ever have expected.
Major spoilers follow.
According to @MyTimeToShineHello, Superman will show up, and he'll be played by none other than Nicolas Cage!
Apparently, Cage - who was all set to play the Man of Steel in Tim Burton's Superman Lives before the project was scrapped - can be seen fighting a giant robot spider at some point, possibly when Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) traversing through time/alternate realities via the Speed Force.
The spiders are a nod to one of producer Jon Peter's infamous conditions he laid out to Kevin Smith when he did a pass on the scrip, before Burton signed on (“I don’t want to see him in that suit. It’s too f*ggy; No flying; He has to fight a giant spider in the third act").
Our own Rohan Patel is heading to CinemaCon, so he'll soon be able to confirm whether this is accurate or not. Keep an eye out for his reaction and the new trailer, which will be released online prior to the screening.
"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, an a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
The Flash will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023 and internationally beginning 14 June 2023.
