Christopher Eccleston Teases Major 'BOR' Plot Point In THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Hinting at a revelation possibly as big as Loki learning his true heritage, Christopher Eccleston teases a back-story involving Odin's father Bor, and how it'll "strongly" affect Thor and the All-father.

With Thor: The Dark World just weeks away from its much-anticipated release, more about the Marvel sequel is coming to the light. During an interview for the Alan Taylor-directed film's official magazine, Malekith the Accursed actor Christopher Eccleston discussed his villainous character and explains how his "ancient" grudge with Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder will come about.

"[Malekith] has almost the godlike status among the elves. He initially appears after a centuries-long sleep. His intention is to reestablish his poisoned planet Svartalfheim - which was destroyed and poisoned centuries and centuries ago - and to return his world to its former glory, because there's a great sense of aristocracy among the elves, a great sense of their own self. So, he says, 'I will restore our world to its former glory, or I will die,'" explains Eccleston. "In order to that, he needs a particular artifact. In his quest to get that artifact, he comes into opposition with Thor, and he has an ancient enmity with Thor's grandfather. There's an ancient grudge, Asgard being represented in the light, and Svartalfheim and the elves represented the dark. And that keys into a back-story which affects Thor and Odin very strongly, because there's a little bit of an element of the sins of the fathers which Malekith is aware of and that Thor's grandfather is not quite as pure as he painted himself."

Interestingly, Underworld: Evolution actor Tony Curran revealed last week that he'd been cast as Thor's grandfather in Thor: The Dark World. And based on Christopher Eccleston's comments (above), an inevitable flashback during the upcoming sequel will explore some big revelation about Bor that'll have a deep impact on both Thor and the All-father Odin. What do you think?

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. It opens in theaters November 8, 2013.

I have a feeling that all of that will be left in the cutting floor...

the infinity gauntlet could be the artifact & could be what the collector is after as well, as we know benico del toro has a part to play in this movie.

Infinity gauntlet, eye of ammago?! Wow. I can't wait.

And him saying they need a specific artifact is probably when they infiltrate Asgard and tries to get into odins vault.

Sounds cool. Malekith will be awesome.

I hope they don't cut too much from this. They cut out several good scenes from the first one. I know if it's too long it might not make as much money, but they need to at least break the two hour mark this time.

It all sounds very promising but as someone pointed out it could be left on the cutting room floor or in a deleted scene.

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!

its easy to do a character story like every other cbm story. But going THIS deep into a characters history is something else entirely. No other CBM has gone THIS DEEP into comic book lore before. Thor's GRANDFATHER? shit!

I'm telling you, this will be the greatest CBM ever. Mark my words.

This Malekith sounds like Man of Steel's Zod, either way film looks good; here's hoping it redeems Marvel for Agents of Shit and Iron Crap 3.

So is Odins mother still a frostgiant as in the comics and norse myth? If the dark elves predates the universe, it was still only 5000 years ago they got defeated by Bor? Or have they been trying to overtake this universe every 5000 years sense its birth some 13 b years ago? Thats not a very good fight record...

Would be cool if the sin of Bor is that he altered the universe but left some fragments on Earth and thats why we have all the norse myths that yet seem to have happen or is different from what we see in the first Thor.

I'm always excited for a new CBM, and I was never even much of a Thor fan, but I am beyond stoked to see this.

Eccleston and Curran are two of my favourite British exports too, both proper intense...
Kat Dennings made me chuckle in the first one. And she has amazing. eyes.

Sounds like they are going to take from JMSs Thor Run again (#600 I think), in which Bor was resurrected by Loki and tricked into believing everyone was demons, but having it be Malekith that resurrects him instead perhaps?

I don't think Odins mother was a frost giant

A giant but not a frost giant. I could be wrong though. That would make more sense about him adopting Loki. I think she was a Storm Giant. There were several races of giants in the comics.

Nope! You were right! I looked it up. Odin's mother was Bestla, daughter of Ymir, and I know for sure Ymir was a very powerful frost giant! + 1 for you!
