Thor is Finally Ramping Up with Casting Call

Thor is Finally Ramping Up with Casting Call

Thank the heavens! (Or possibly Asgard) We were becoming a little worried about the progress of this film.

Coming attractions reports that the Thor casting call is now under way. Thank the heavens, I was becoming a little worried about the progress of this film. For instance, will this film really ever get made? Below is the movie producers casting call:

Male MUST BE MID-LATE 20'S and SIX FEET OR TALLER. LEAD.
Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severly humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature her of our film.

Sounds like filming will start in July and wrap in September. Bring down the THUNDER!!!

People - it doesn't say WHOM they're casting for (don't just assume it's Goldielocks). For all we know, they could be looking for filler material for the Halls of Asgard. Usually the 'powers that be' have someone (or a few someones) in mind to play the main characters. I've never heard of an open casting call for a big-budget movie lead before (unless they're specifically looking for an unknown)...

@loganoneil
Well if this article is to be believed it says lead and the description for the role describes Thor to a tee.

Alten - not to be a noodge, but WHERE does it say 'LEAD"'?

"Male MUST BE MID-LATE 20'S and SIX FEET OR TALLER. LEAD.
Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severly humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature her of our film."

Remember, this is the ONLY portion of the article that was (supposedly) put out by the producers. This decription could fit a couple different Asgardian roles...

Since they may be looking for someone in their mid to late twenties how about Jared Padelecki if he bulked up a little and went blonde? He's tall enough and he has that superhero chiseled chin. I like the choice of Karl Urban too but it may not be what they want.

Shaman --------------- Perfect choice. He just better hit the gym A WHOLE LOT.

The PERFECT choice for Thor, would be Alexander Skarsgaard,Not only does he looks the part, he also have the long blonde hair, so noo wigs what so ever is needed :) the only thing, that may be against him, is his not a huge star yet?

Shaman! Your Avengers picks are fantastic! Absolutely spot-on for a modern age Avengers! Haha!

i just dont see karl urban or Jared Padelecki playing thor, imo. i have only seen head shots of Alexander Skarsgaard and he looks the part from the neck up, not sure if he is big enough though. Triple H looks the part from top to bottem, though it seems they are looking for a younger actor in his 20's to play the role of the thunder god. Also even though Triple H looks the part perfectly, the acting skills just might not be there for him to play the lead role. I am bias when it comes to this movie, i am a hugh Triple H fan and would love to see him play Thor but not if it hurts the movie, if his acting is up to par then great choice for Thor.

Shaman hit it on the head, wat people got 2 understand is that Not only do u have 2 look like thor but an actor has 2 bring his personality 2 life, for instance, tobey mcgwire did a great job of potraying spiderman's sarcasim, robert downey jr brought tonys starks swagger 2 life, and ofcourse heath ledger perfected the joker. Outside of Urban, how many actors can say," Ye Demon, thou shall be sent to to the womb of hella!, FOR ASGARD!!!". u have 2 be a real Thespian to play this part.

Karl Urban or Gerald Butler, check him out in TimeLine, he could do it.

I'm totally with you. Alexander Skarsgaard would nail it. He's not body builder ripped, but I don't think he has to be to play Thor. He's well above 6 foot also. For those of you that haven't seen Generation Kill or True Blood, he was great in both.

crazy8 - 2/19/2009, 3:52 PM
This will be hard to cast.Karl Urban is a bad choice because he's not big enough. I'd hate to see Triple H because i hate movies with wrestlers in them and it would turn the movie into a wwe thing
loganoneil
loganoneil - 2/19/2009, 4:02 PM
Triple H - BAD IDEA people! I agree, the man kinda' looks like goldielocks sure, but could anyone SERIOUSLY picture him ACTING?! The man is a WRESTLER for god's sake! Aside from a bit part in 'Blade 3' (where he played an over-sized goon - oooo, big stretch there!), what has he done to justify giving him such a part (aside from a sh!t-load of steroids)? Keep in mind, KEN BRANAUGH is directing this - he's a classically trained Shakespearian actor/director who's had years of theater and movie experience (both in front of and behind the camera). Can any of you HONESTLY say that you could put Triple H dressed up as the Norse God of Thunder in a room with a movie camera and NOT expect it to be TOTAL CRAP?!

Oh boy...I can see where ya'll would want Karl Urben...and at first, he seems like a likely candidate..But i'm just not that impressed with his acting ability. Did anyone see the Pathfinder? One of the worst films I've seen in a while, and his acting was part of it...I can see how he'd be a good fit, but I say lets find someone with some better acting chops

joob234 - 2/19/2009, 5:05 PM
i totally agree with logan, it sucks daniel craig already turned down an offer for it! and davidzuck, u just happen to pick the worst movie karl urban has been in! haha. he was sick in lord of the rings and the bourne supremacy so dont say hes a crappy actor
joob234
joob234 - 2/19/2009, 5:07 PM
and haha i take back what i said about matt damon, he would suck as thor but if u dyed his hair and take in his actings, he'd be a sick captain america!
CrookedJaw
CrookedJaw - 2/19/2009, 5:22 PM
Oh, I didnt say he was a crappy acror...haha, and yeah...Pathfinder was his worst movie, I just don't see him as the God of Thunder

So I know Twilight is kinda gay and everything but there is an actor in it who might be perfect. His name is Kellan Lutz and he plays Emmett.
KeepItReal
KeepItReal - 2/19/2009, 6:42 PM
I like Vladimir Kulich he is 6'5! He would look like a very good NORSE god. He is older (too bad) but he has the looks the accent. Have you seem him in 13th Warrior? Karl Urban is also older he is 37 this year. They want to pick someone in their mid-late 20's. That is going to be hard.

Shaman I just read your reply from the other forum on your thoughts on Vladimir...I hear you...but I still like him =:)

Ok. No wrestlers please. C'mon people! Think this out. How often have professional (I use the term loosely) wrestlers turned actor and they were really good at it? Don't you dare say the Rock. I said "really good at it."
Personal note. Just like Iron Man ended with Sabbath's Iron Man song, I think using KISS' "God of Thunder" would be a good closing end credit song. Of coarse I would rather have the Rob Zombie version...
brokenstructure
brokenstructure - 2/19/2009, 6:57 PM
Okay Kellen Lutz is about 23. He's 6'1" and muscular. Go on imdb and take a look. Also I agree no wrestlers.
KeepItReal
KeepItReal - 2/19/2009, 7:01 PM
Kellen Lutz looks like a baby! No offense, IMO.

What about:Travis Van Winkle, 5'11 but they could work with that, late 20's.

Maybe Karl Urban....

Aiiwolf - 2/19/2009, 7:49 PM
Pick someone NEW. I want NEW FACES...or underdog actors....or under-rated GOOD actors.

I cant see anyone in hollywood at the moment playing this role lol....everytime I think of Thor ....Triple H pops up lmfao.

Triple H = Awesome wrestler looks the part, but Terrible actor...lol...I saw RAW this past week.....Did anyone catch it? Man he was so pissed I heard the lightning from ASGARD hit the WWE ring.....LOL

By the way....Triple doesnt use steroids....he uses that CREATINE and N.O. EXPLODE. He even mentioned thatn in his interviews....I read a few comments posted on this page....just letting you know. The Rock used steroids....thats why he shrunk. And I cant believe the rock is getting to play BLACK ADAM....wtf? Hes not middle eastern....Id rather have him play SAHAZAM. He looks like a cocky BILLY BATSON lol

Aiiwolf - uh, what Triple H SAYS he does and what he ACTUALLY does are not necessarily the same thing. I don't care if he SAYS he drinks nothing but protein shakes and Flinstone's multi-vitamins - the boy has 'Barry Bond'-itis (a Mardi Gras head and Raisinetts in his jock strap. Remember - he's a PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER - IT'S NOT A 'SPORT' (meaning there are no drug regluations or screening), so he can 'SAY' whatever he wants to. At least we both agree that he BLOWS as an actor...

As for Shazam (Captain Marvel), didn't you know that the movie has been put on the back-burner INDEFINATELY? It doesn't looks like 'The Rock' (or anyone else for that matter) is going to be donning the big golden lighting bolt threads any time soon. I know, it breaks my heart too (the 'Big Red Cheese' has been a personal favorite of mine since I was a kid...)

whoa whoa whoa. lol as soon as i got on this post i saw "hire triple h"

lol he's the main reason i've never finished blade: trinity. absolutely horribleeeeeeee actor

Karl Urban wouldnt be too bad. Pathfinder was a let down, but not because of him.

IN my opinion, they should look for someone that has amzing acting skills first. they can always use cgi to make him look big and buff like all the guys in 300. if they try to narrow it down to all the "Male MID-LATE 20'S and SIX FEET OR TALLER. LEAD. Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severly humbled before becoming the compassionate" then they arent going to have much selection. this is going to be a HARD role for even an amazing actor, let alone some 25 year old kid that might have made a few appearances in some shitty cw television shows.

anyone else agree?
