THOR: THE DARK WORLD Gearing Up For Filming At the Stonehenge Monument

Yet another on-location filming site has been uncovered for Marvel's anticipated sequel, Thor: The Dark World, apparently at a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England! Check it out!

As previously noted, the commencement of filming for Thor: The Dark World is set for the first week of September. And while it's already expected to explore underground tunnels in London, the woodland hills in Bourne Wood, and the island country of Iceland, another rather ancient shooting location for the upcoming Marvel sequel has been spotted.

According to Lucjan Kaliniecki of Twitter, and other sources, filming for the Alan Taylor-directed Thor followup is gearing up at the Stonehenge prehistoric monument, located in southwest England. While famous for being one of the world's last unexplained structures, the circular setting of large upright stones is believed to be over 5,000 years old.

Although the ancient landmark of Wiltshire county has appeared in many movies, BBC's fifth Doctor Who series' big finale is most notable for shooting at the location.

It is unclear whether the ancient monument will only feature in earthbound scenes of Thor: The Dark World, or if it's doubling for one of the Nine realms the sequel will explore. However, the Stonehenge has made several appearances in the Marvel Comics Universe, describing it as a “mystic place.” At one point, it was used as a portal. What do you think?

In related news, further progress on the construction of the sequel's set in Bourne Wood, Farnham has been revealed in new photos, via David Ogilby's photostream on Flickr.

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

I'm guessing it'll be activated as some kind of portal on Earth. I can't imagine using an internationally-known landmark like Stonehenge and trying to pass it off as something in another dimension

TBH i really liked the idea of the helmet being only for a ceremonial purpose and i think the lack of a helmet looks alot better. Also i never really liked Thor in the comics isk wy but every choice they made in the film cliced with me and opened me to the idea

What this movie should be about and hopefully is is the oppossite of the first setting wise. I likd tha they grounded him in the first but we have seen enough of him on earth ovr 2 films. Make it so Jane, Darcy, and Selvig are transported to the dark elf realm and Thor has to either fight his way to them of Malekith uses them as leverage to use Thor but either way keep it off earth. It would be a great contrast to the first while still allowing for the pay offs for set ups in prior films like Thor always having Mjolnir and reuniting with Jane

I liked Dennings actually. What sold me on the film was the unexpected humor and their willingness to poke fun at the ridiculous nature of the concept and she was a part of that. That being said i cant stand her voice and wouldnt object to hr biting the big one in this installment.

I hope they dnt spend too much time on the Bifrost. Its been a while, Asgardian tech is awesome, they fixed it, moving on.

I really don't care if he wears the helmet or not I always thought they were going for a more Ultimate Thor and as good as the helmet looks in the pictures it wasn't all that good looking in the film. So if he does wear it they need to change the design a little I mean they did with Loki for the Avengers.

This will be the movie with the most emotional depth. It will be truly amazing, but Kat Dennings is going to ruin it, for me, once again.

Yeah I think he should wear the helmet. If loki and odin do it in battle then he can. Makes no sense at all. I know he's a god but he wears armor so why not complete the amour with a helmet.
