At long last, it's Thor: Love and Thunder week, and as the countdown clock inches closer to zero, Marvel Studios has released an action-packed new TV spot for the Taika Waititi-directed blockbuster, teasing the epic showdown between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Gorr (Christian Bale).

Having seen the movie  (review Tuesday!), we'll warn you now that the TV spot does spoil the major new weapon upgrade our beloved God of Thunder receives in the film - Zeus' (Russell Crowe) lightning bolt - and how it factors into his epic showdown with the God Butcher. But don't worry too much, because it does manage to withhold many of the film's fun secrets, so feel free to watch as you get ready for next weekend!

Watch the latest TV spot below:

In addition to Chris Hemsworth as the titular God of Thunder, the cast will also feature Academy Award-winner Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Mighty Thor, Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, Academy Award-winner Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, 9x Academy Award-nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe as Zeus.

“Let me tell you the story of the space viking, Thor Odinson…”

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a search for self-discovery. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Thor: Love and Thunder thunders into theaters on July 8!

So on The Direct they Interviewed Natalie Portman about this and she said the movie is ….and this is her quote….”the gayest marvel movie yet.”

I ask again, How do have a goofy Waititi movie and still preserve the serious tone of Gorr the God Butcher?

From everything I have seen on this film I don’t have a good feeling about it.

@SpaceParanoids - maybe how you have Hitler be a childhood imaginary best friend. I'm honestly growing tired of the responses to these subjects from such a minor few about how they are presented. It takes a certain level of maturity to talk about these things in a variety of ways, and maybe you aren't there yet. That's totally fine, but why try to spill other people who are mature enough to understand that humor and drama aren't mutually exclusive? It would actually show you have an ounce of maturity to step back here and keep your mouth shut, but that might be too much for you and you insist on showing how little depth of emotion you have. Great man, good for you, we all see how shallow you are. Well done.

Itwasme - 7/3/2022, 10:29 PM
@SpaceParanoids - nope. You?

Just to clarify I'm responding to the culmination of your posts, not just today... in case that wasn't clear. We get you don't have the maturity to understand goofy and drama can coexist - you don't have to keep reminding us.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 7/3/2022, 10:45 PM
@Itwasme - Well, Thank you for reading all of my posts.

You are a very angry and defensive young man.
Why do so many of you here act as if you actually had a hand in making these Marvel movies?

Is that your way of making yourselves feel more important than you really aren’t?

It’ll be okay slick.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 7/3/2022, 10:52 PM
@SpaceParanoids - I'm not young, very old actually. It's why I can see your lack of maturity so clearly. I tend to enjoy or not enjoy Marvel, DC, Image or anything else equally. Enjoying a singular company is again very immature, but that's your line of thought I suppose. Waititi just won an Academy Award for that very goofy film about Hitler being a best friend of a boy, but instead of taking a step back and thinking "hey maybe there's some depth to this that I don't get" you'll go ahead and dismiss anything he does. Great job. That's mature.

Slick.

@Itwasme - to be fair, being unironically vapid and repetitive is kinda all these guys have going for them. Kinda hard to get noticed if your angle is having an honest, mature and healthy approach to the media you're engaging with.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 7/3/2022, 11:04 PM
@Itwasme - “ dismiss anything he does.”

For someone so allegedly mature and worldly you sure are making blanket assumptions…much like a young person would.

I never dismissed “everything he has done” and if you have read all of my posts as you claim then you would see where I said that I enjoyed Ragnarok, but there is a thing on a movie called “tone”.
There are comedies and there are dramas. Of course you know that right?

And Waititi prefers a comedic take on his films, so when a serious topic is to be broached in that comedic movie he seems to gloss over it and it lessens the severity and seriousness of that topic.
Example: The Apocalypse of Asgard was not nearly as serious and impactful as it should have been and it was lessened by the constant humor in Ragnarok.

I can see the same thing happening in Love and Thunder.
And by the trailers this looks even sillier.

I’m sorry that someone else has an opinion that differs from yours but that’s the way the world works chief.

And even a Oscar doesn’t mean much. Crash won best picture and where is that today? Marisa Tomei won best supporting actress. And 25 years later she got to play Ain’t May. What a testament to that award.

And on and on it goes, and that’s not opinion those are facts.

Like I said, you’ll be okay sport.

@OmegaDaGrodd - haha... too true. It's an ironic sign of a lack of emotional intelligence in how these people respond here. The world, and in particular human emotions, aren't binary.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 7/3/2022, 11:10 PM
@SpaceParanoids - so the comedic take on Hitler diminishes the impact of the boys mom dying? What? Did you even see the film?

The inclusion of comedy, even goofy, doesn't diminish the dramatic impact. Joy is an emotion; large swings in emotions only enhance them.
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 7/3/2022, 11:16 PM
@Itwasme - true, a lack of emotional intelligence in nerd spaces (and the way that gets represented in comment sections like this) has become way too common.

It has always fascinated me how after a certain point it gets impossible to tell if people are making ridiculous statements because they genuinely don't understand the concept they're discussing, or if they do understand and are just playing dumb because it gives them the avenue to make ridiculous statements. Mix in terrible reading comprehension and diagnosing exactly what's wrong with the people here becomes impossible. It's a shame because the actual comic adaptations have kept getting more interesting and expansive, yet the discussion spaces are regularly filled with people who have zero emotional intelligence, introspective thoughts or media literacy

Itwasme - 7/3/2022, 11:19 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - all good points man. There's a bit of an undercurrent of revolution going on here these days - more so in response to the increase in racism and bigotry in the comments - but if we do leave and diminish this place to the kids table, it would be great to have you along.

OmegaDaGrodd - 7/3/2022, 11:29 PM
@Itwasme - count me in. Nothing last forever, and what this site is losing can definitely be found elsewhere in the future. It's always been the good people that have made this place good.

And as for the kids table:

@SpaceParanoids - Just so you know. Liking serious and gritty things doesn't make you more manly. If you're perception is that having things constantly be serious is what separates the men from the boys than you clearly have a vagina.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 7/3/2022, 11:33 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - good to hear man. I'd be really bummed if you couldn't come along for the ride. I've always appreciated your perspective and your positive take on things. This place has become a drain and I'm not sure the powers that be are going to change it. Finding a positive place for all fans would be great.
