The Thunderbolts will deliver justice like lightning when they make their MCU debut on July 26, 2024, and we now have a first look at the heroes and villains (well, they're mostly anti-heroes) who will assemble as part of this team.
From left to right, we have Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
For those of you keeping count, that's three characters from Black Widow, three from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and one from, uh, Ant-Man and The Wasp.
We'd have maybe liked to see a little more variety (no Abomination?), but it's hard to complain about this lineup. Seeing these characters interact promises to be a lot of fun, and while some fans will be disappointed that there's no Baron Zemo, for example, we'd be shocked if he and a few other surprise characters don't factor into the movie.
No details on who the Thunderbolts will face were revealed, and we also have no idea what brings the team together. However, Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank) will direct the movie from a script by Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson.
Marvel Studios spent a lot of time on stage at D23, though most of the footage shown was exclusive to the event (including sneak peeks for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Echo, and this November's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). That's a little disappointing, though we can't complain too much about getting some concept art of the MCU's own Suicide Squad.
Take a closer look at the Thunderbolts crew below (we'll update if Marvel Studios shares a hi-res version), and let us know your thoughts on the roster in the comments section.
