“ThunderCats” is the newest series from WBA, joining “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” which was recently renewed for a third season, and the following forthcoming programs: “The Looney Tunes Show,” “MAD,” “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” and “Young Justice.” The announcement was made today by Sam Register, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, Warner Bros. Animation.

“In addition to being Warner Bros. Animation’s first anime series, ‘ThunderCats’ marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy,” said Register. “The realism and dynamic visual style we’ve achieved are sure to thrill viewers, and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience.”

The 21st century reimagining of the series marks a creative collaboration between WBA and Studio4°C, one of the most vibrant animation studios in Japan, with credits including “The Animatrix,” “Gotham Knights” and “Halo Legends.” WBA is working closely with Studio4°C, utilizing the latter’s expertise to give the “ThunderCats” characters a new cutting-edge look while remaining true to the compelling storylines and mythology of the original series.

“We at Studio4°C are excited to be in this creative partnership with Warner Bros. Animation to bring ‘ThunderCats’ to life,” said Eiko Tanaka, President and CEO, Studio4°C. “This collaboration combines the strengths of our two companies – high production values and great storytelling – toward reintroducing this classic fan-favorite to a new audience.”

Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.

The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.

“ThunderCats” is executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”). Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) are the producers.

I wasn't a fan (Masters of the Universe for me), but for everyone who was I hope this works out better than the MOTU revamped cartoon did. It wasn't bad, but it obviously didn't have staying power.

Wow, I own the first season on dvd. A remake could be good, if handled correctly. (No modern comic relief, and make Mummra really threatening).

Oh man, I pray this one is a winner. the animation that some of the other remakes (GI GOE, Transformers, He-Man) had were superior, but the voice-overs and the general storylines were trash! It takes more than great animation, you have to add some substance to the mix, too, not that overly campy sh*t(excluding batman B&B)

@rolanddeschain -you said it all right there my man! Let's hope the producers have been taking notes as to why those other re-vamps failed and avoid all those mistakes on this one.

mclovin@ thanks, bro. If they make it with a serious tone, can you imagine how bad-ass mum-ra could be?!! I would prefer if they skip the whole 'Lion-o is a child trapped in a mans body learning to be a leader while mentally growing up' portion of the story. Make him a 20ish something guy, with guys like Panthro, and Tigra more in their 40s-50s. The twins can be older teenagers, and Snarf can chase them around instead of Lion-O. Man, I have my fingers crossed for this one

Man I love to see this renew but please don't be crappy. The animation was ahead of its time for the 1980's time frame. While u are @ it. Bring back the Silverhawks & TigerSharks.
Arthur Rankin, Jr. & Jules Bass did good with all 3 series. But TigerSharks was never as big as the other two.

@rolanddeschain - I agree with every single thing you just said, except for the Snarf part. He needs to be piloting the ship while they are crash landing on 3rd earth . They all jump to safety as Snarf tries to regain control. As they all land on their feet after jumping, THE MUTHA FCUKING SHIP BLOWS SNARF TO SMITHEREENS!!! Now that is what I call a good start!

@ Anil Rickly & MassExecutions1: I loved the Spectacular Spider-Man Series. lol I thought it was what the movies should have been.

I personally think that this would be great, especially if they use the animation style used in Avatar: The Last Air Bender. Hopefully this does turn into a Live movie! And Finally I can try and get cast for a leading role! Lion-O!!!!! :D lol

Maybe they are testing the waters to see how the franchise is accepted before they go into a full fledged live-action film like they've been discussing.

Hey guys I have been MIA cause I am in the 619 (San Diego) getting some R&R with the new wife so anyhow on this

This was my fav cartoon as a kid, had the toys, sword and everything. I wonder if it will have the same concept, Thundera is doomed, they go to Third Earth and all that. I also wonder if that Cloud City that was in the leaked script is going to be in it as well. Also, what about Larry Kenney doing Lion-O again, well if he cant, I can do it since I can do Lion-O dead on.

Speaking of that cant help but do this

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, THUNDERCATS HHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I definitely had the hots for Cheetarah as a kid!! And Panthro made me want to be a ninja. Any idea when this will debut?? I'm still amped for a live action movie, but this will due until then.

All I can ask for is... Sword of Omens, give me sight beyond sight!!!

Pinehas: yeah it may look high-tech, but a lot of square-animation don´t you agree?

i think what made me love The Animatrix and GK was the stories themselves and the tone..but not quite the animation itself (saw HLegends at store but i´m waiting for it to lower the price lol!)

I was really excited about this... until I found out it was anime. I really... really hate anime. No Thundercats for me I guess. Sigh.

Yeah Thundercats! I think having it in anime will work really well. As long as it darker anime styled like Akira or Death Note and not Pokemon...

With the exception of some lack-luster cheats that you find in most animation, TCats was cutting edge. It still holds up in part. I think it would be a grievious error to gear it down for little kids. Giving it the treatment of GI Joe Resolute, both in animation and story maturity would gain a wide demographic of fans from very young to professional age. Something both could watch.
But yeah. I hate the Japanese animation. Pointy chins and big eyes are just freaky.
