'Thundercats' buried at Warner Brothers!

'Thundercats' buried at Warner Brothers!

While this news is bad news I kinda had a feeling this would happen.

When I first saw the 'Thundecats' concept art released earlier this year I felt like a kid again in the 80's, running back in the house to settle down and watch the best 30 minutes on TV a boy could ask for in seeing Mumm-ra yell every time he was on screen. The 'Thundercats were on the loose and Lion-o was sure to shut the mummy up!

Not so much anymore! Reliable sources from Warner Brothers has reported that the rumored and much anticipated 'Thundercats' movie is buried. Not happening. Kaput.

This pains me to report such non sense as 'Transformers' and 'G.I. Joe' has hit box office gold in recent months. Both of those movies were 80's properties converted to the big screen successfully, one would think that the next logical step would be the 'Thundercats' but alas, I guess not.

Good news is that there are a few online video games that you can play. They have the feeling of the original NES. Check them out by clicking the source link.

Also, Hard Hero has created two porcelain 'Thundercats' statues, Lion-O and Cheetara!

Which are cool and priced at $199.99.

The game and the statues are cool but nothing, I mean nothing could replace the news of the 'Thundercats' getting the much deserved green light. COME ON MAN!!!

Wow, I mean, with Thundercat people all the rage these days since Avatar came out, you'd think WB would try to cash in on that... ;)

They could at least do an animated movie if they are too scared to invest in a live-action one.

@Lee what type of file is your avatar? I tried to use a motion one but it would only show up as a still picture.

Given Hollywood's obsession with ruining the greatness that was the 1980's, have patience. They'll get around to ruining the Thundercats, which was one of my three favorite animated 80's series, along with the original Joe and Transformers, soon enough.

I like TNT's idea of doing an animated Thundercats movie. That would probably be better than trying to CGI them or do them "live" with goofy makeup and prosthetics.

Lee what up dude!! Hope everyone had a good holiday! I agree with TNT, they need to at least do something animated. Joe was bad but it still got made, here we go again with this statement, 'if it is done right it could be epic.

Id love to see this happen. The more adult comics showed what a great concept it could be.

I hope they sharpen up the story from the animated feature. Do you guys remember people zooming around in space exposed without spacesuits?? Even as a young kid that made me cringe. Or, when they came across Lynx-o, Pumyra, and Bengali; Lion-o bestowed upon them the title of Thundercat. A title that was understood early on in the show to be reserved to the nobles of Thundera. Specifically, the heads of the clans which comprised the Panther, Tiger, Cheetah, and Lion clans. Alson, they never explained the story of Third Earth. Why it was the way it was.
Perhaps these are the type of story challenges they ran into while in development.

I doubt they actually tried to think about any of those concepts intelligently phin, I mean come on according to Hollywood ice sinks.

And for all its faults Transformers 2 was still far more watchable than gi joke.

I was really looking forward to Vin Diesel as Panthro.

Personally, I'm tired of the 80's Cartoons getting revived via Live Action Movies. But Thundercats was the one I could see actually being truly epic if done right. So this does make me sad.

Animation is ok, but I want I live action. I say no to animation. It was already a cartoon for god sake! This does suck. If u really pay attention to the art work at intro, u can see that is was flashy @ some points, then downgraded @ others.

Gi joe phin, gi fricken joe. Classic scene. Which would lead me to believe that wouldn't have had a problem with Liono cruising around space without a suite.

I just watched a Thundercats cartoon from the 80's again and oh boy:) It's a big change from what I remember to what it actually is. That is so with every 80's cartoon property though. But when I say Mumm-ra is the ever yelling in almost all of his scenes I was spot on. Try watching it again to see Mumm-ra yell all the time its worth a few laughs:) Good times, Good times.

This show has solid potential if they can shore up some of the story weakness (like flying around in space on the back of motorcycle) and strengthening those areas that appealed to the audiences (The Thunderan and Third Earth back story). It was Planet of the Apes meets Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars. It can be done, and done well. I'd be all for live-action. If they could do Avatar, they could do this. But more depth than Avatar with less perversion.

thwhtGuardian - 12/29/2009, 4:55 PM
Yeah, I agree the show had an interesting concept, especially for an 80's cartoon. I really enjoyed the re imagined wild storm comics from '03, weird bondage fetishes aside it really did take a serious look at the world of Thundercats.
