The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime "Transformers" character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.

"This one is a more mature storyline, definitely darker, more emotional in the end. You feel the stakes are higher because it takes place in an American city. You're not disconnected with Egypt and the pyramids. I'm very happy with the movie," he says, touching lightly on the story we can expect to see. "It's a small group and you follow them. There's no cavalry coming. I've said this with Ehren, we were talking about concept, we used the term 'Black Hawk Down.' We try to make the cavalry unable to come. And it's more fun to watch our heroes in this epic ending with just a small group. It makes it more intimate."

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon is set to hit theatres on July 1!

"Dark of the Moon" is one of the lamest titles ever. How much would it cost to buy the word 'side' from Pink Floyd??

And screw these lame story lines which have no respect for the original show. BRING ON UNICRON ALREADY!!!

Where are the Dino bots? What about the Insecticons? Are they goignt to wait until this movie to dig Jetfire/Skyfire out of the glacier after solomnly leaving him to freeze his thrusters off? Wait, isn't there some legal issues involving Robotech with that character? Oh wait, he's an SR-71 with a scottish accent now...

I'm so confused.

I just hope there's no ghetto sub-compacts or robo-balls in the next one.

"You're not disconnected with Egypt and the pyramids".

The ROTFL movie sucked because of excessive action scenes and shacky cameras, not because it was Un-american for daring to show another country other than USA being attacked.

Egypt and the pyramids are still EARTH, any human can relate to that. :P

@ teabag - lol Oh so you prefer the movie versions when, instead of the 'clubbing' that you find so irreverent, the incredibly racist robots who can't read and have gold teeth are break dancing, or when you speak about the robots shrinking down to little sizes, you must be referring to the scene from the first movie when the Cube, the size of the HOOVER DAM, shrinks down to something small enough for Shai La douche' to carry around in a backpack. And Optimus playing basketball makes much less sense I supppose, than a robot who disguises himself as a semi truck in order to NOT get noticed and blend in with all the other cars on the road, yet choosing the most flamboyantly over the-top paint job COVERED in LED lights.... or Bumblebee peeing on someone.
I'm not saying that the show is a masterpiece, it's not, but I'm tired of people defending these god awful movies just because all they need to enjoy a film is explosions.
No one is saying we need a frame for frame remake of the cartoon, but is it too much to ask for at least A LITTLE respect for the well known storylines and characters that fans know and want to see brought to life, instead of making up almost everything as they go along?
INSTEAD, all we've been given is an over the top stereotype of what people think of when they think 'Michael Bay', and BURSTING at the seams with product placement.
And don't get me started on the flaws of the show, because we can go tit for tat on that one. The movies suck and NO ONE who calls themselves a fan of the original show can think that these movies are the best we could get.

Nuff' said.

@ teabag - as long as we can agree that they're both not great - because ultimately they're just really elaborate toy commercials.
The animated movie is an acquired taste for sure - over the top 80's. - I will say this though, killing off Optimus within the first 15 minutes is one of the ballsiest moves ever, and it works.
One other issue I have with the first movie is directly lifted from the animated movie - The Optimus vs Megatron fight towards the end of the film builds up to the classic quote - "One shall stand, one shall fall!" - they both run towards each other and collide in mid air in what SHOULD have been the best moment of the movie only to ......... cut away to Shia labeouf running through the streets - BIGGEST. LET DOWN. EVER.

I know I'm repeating myself over and over and over again, but I'm just gonna say again that this film sucks. Plus, I wanna say something about this whole Megan Fox drama.

Okay, maybe this whole "Hitler" deal might have been over the top and it might have merited a drop. But I wouldn't be [female dog]ing about it if certain things in the world were going on. You guys think Megan Fox was ungrateful to Bay? Well how about swallowing this down: Howard Stern is actually suing the company he works for THREE MONTHS after he resigned. For God's sake, I'm a fan of this guy, and his shows during 2010 were among the worst, but I had no idea he'd top that year. He's plugging Apple products here and there, bashing his former employers who have better success than him (Stuttering John is working on the biopic of John Gotti, and Howard's saying the movie is gonna be a pile of shit; sounds like me on "Transformers: Dark of the Moon"), acting like he's better than everyone, lashing out at his callers who have reasonable opinions (while letting Chris Rock come in and criticize him), bragging how he had sex with models in college while we all knew he was an introvert this whole time, blah blah blah. Now he thinks he's owed so much more? Bash Megan all you want, but when she was let go from the "Transformers" movie franchise, at least she left without starting some bullshit. She probably knew what she did wrong (if she did) and is willing to pay for it. Howard Stern's like a kid who didn't get a toy, and now he's gonna bawl all day until he gets it.

Plus, I would've been for "Transformers 3" if they went ahead and got Gemma Arterton, who was on the list of replacement girls. All we got was a girl who, like Fox, had plastic surgery here and there. So, basically it's gonna be the same as it always was. I'm sticking with "Thor"; at least they're adding a song from the Foo Fighters to the film, rather than throwing in sappy love ballads from every gay band out there.

That is all.

that looks horrible, you almost can't tell what you're looking at. I bet any money when the transformers is rebooted the autobots will have a much simpler design, currently the design is a jumbled mess.

The biggest problem with self-proclaimed Transformer G1 fans is that they actually believe there is some canon to follow that the movies have somehow abused. This is all in their head but it's impossible trying to get them to understand that becasue as fanboys naturally whatever they adored in their childhood is cemented as law no matter how misguided they were.

FACT: The comic was released before the cartoon and the initial release were the toys that had their basic backgrounds and profiles made-up on the fly by MARVEL comics writers. The comics followed their own stories and the cartoons did their own thing with the main character in the comics being Buster and the main character in the the cartoon being Spike.

No matter what officially sanctioned version you followed or even both, you get the followers of that version (mostly the cartoon fanboys) believing that their version is what the live action movie should be adapting. Hasbro simply don't give a crap about canon as all this material is created for one purpose only, to market the new lines of TOYS! Hence when they released Transformers the animated movie back in '86, they killed off as many of them as possible! Nothing "Ballsy" or "Daring" about it as misguided fanboys want to believe, just cleaning the slate to introduce a new line of advertising for a new line of toys.

And since those days there has been tons of new versions of cartoons and comics doing the same job of being invented to market new or rehashed versions of Hasbro's Toys and nothing more.

Which brings us to the Michael Bay movies, same directive, sell toys, but unlike the other various incarnations it is presented as a mosaic of selected elements of everything that has gone before as a live action tribute be it from the original comics, cartoons, Japanese cartoons or Beast Wars. Just as fun and just as silly.

BUT FANBOYS ONLY SEE THEIR CHILDHOOD AND NEVER GROW UP SO THEY CAN NEVER APPRECIATE THE BIG PICTURE, THEIR LOSS EVERYBODY ELSE'S GAIN!

And just for the record, in the G1 cartoon Jazz was a racist stereotype of a black guy form the 80's with music pumping from ghetto-blasters! No different a direction taken from the hip-hop street-type twins in the 2nd movie. And there was countless more ridiculously stupid comedy moments in the cartoon like Chip Chase controlling an Autobot with his computer in a fight like a video game, Autobots on surf boards or Bumblebee swinging from vines like Tarzan. Not to mention the sheer stupidity of some of the things they changed into like a Blue ghetto blaster, a Handgun or a bright red, bright purple or bright blue F14 jet-fighters (becasue that blends in?). Sure they didn't have the toilet humour, but this stuff was simply silly fun and the movies are the same, learn to enjoy them for what they are and leave your misguided hate at the door. It'll do you a lot of good in the long run as a basic understanding human being instead of an adolescent fanboy.

1st movie = great fun
2nd movie = mostly entertaining mess
3rd movie = potentially jaw-dropping visual spectacle or an even bigger entertaining mess!
