The Boys returns for its fourth season next month, and if star Jack Quaid (Hughie) is to be believed, fans are in for the most batshit insane batch of episodes yet - which really is saying something when you consider some of the things we've witnessed over the course of the previous three seasons.
During an interview with Collider, Quaid said this latest season is his favourite yet, and while he didn't share any specifics when it comes to what viewers can expect from the finale, it sounds like we might be in store for quite a shocker.
"They always find a way to somehow find new beats, and they never repeat themselves," Quaid of the new season. "It’s been really cool. This is my favorite season that we’ve ever done. The writers have topped themselves." He went on to add that there were several moments that shocked him when he first got the scripts too, especially towards the end of the season."
"There are certain things in this season when I read them that I audibly gasped," he continued. "I really didn’t see a lot of the beats coming, and that’s very hard to do for a person who’s been on the show for four seasons. The writers just really outdid themselves. The ending is awesome. The ending is f*cking nuts. It’s insane. I’m talking about The Boys, so I can swear."
Having had an early look at season 4, we can say... nothing! But things do indeed get bloody diabolical.
The Boys was recently renewed for a fifth run, and the working of the announcement indicated that there will be at least one more after that.
"The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power," reads the official season 4 synopsis. "Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late."
Returning cast members include Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti, along with new recruits Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
The first three episodes of The Boys season 4 will be available to stream from June 13th, with new instalments dropping weekly through to the season finale on July 18.
