THOR: RAGNAROK And DREDD Actor Karl Urban Will Play Billy Butcher In Amazon's THE BOYS TV Series

Well, this show just got a lot more interesting. Amazon's upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis' The Boys has cast Karl Urban (Dredd, Thor: Ragnarok) in the lead role of Billy Butcher. More past the jump...

We recently found out who'd be playing Mother's Milk, The Female of The Species and Wee Hughie in Amazon's The Boys adaptation, and now Deadline reports that none other than Karl Urban will be bringing life to the ultra-violent leader of the team, Billy Butcher.

In the comics, Billy puts together The Boys in an attempt to shut down Homelander and the rest of his super-powered ilk. And by put down we mean murder in the most brutal ways imaginable.

It sounds like this small-screen take on the character will be pretty faithful to the source material:

Mysterious, brutal and with a personal but secret agenda, Billy Butcher approaches Hughie (co-lead Jack Quaid), claiming to be a shadowy government operative. Butcher capitalizes on Hughie’s rage over his girlfriend Robin’s accidental death at the hands of Superhero A-Train (Jesse T. Usher) and enlists Hughie as part of his plan to bring down the Superhero franchise.

Urban should need no introduction here, having appeared in the rebooted Star Trek movies as Dr, McCoy, donning the iconic helmet of Dredd, and most recently taking on the God of Thunder as Skurge in Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok.

The Boys hails from Supernatural creator and Timeless co-creator Eric Kripke, Preacher‘s Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, and Sony Pictures TV.

That is great casting!

Hopefully the series tones it down a little bit, The Boys tried to hard to be shocking in my opinion.

This is really really left field casting, I wouldn't have had on my list of top 20 choices. I'm a fan of Urbans's work but this could make or break this, if he can't get the accent down and perfect and really channel the London thug, then it'll fall flat on it's face. Saying that....who's to say they'll even make Butcher and Hughie English and Scottish respectively, which would be a [frick]ing shame.

Huge fan of The Boys, loved Urban in Dredd but I really can't see him as Billy.
