Censors Up in Arms About THE WALKING DEAD

Censors Up in Arms About THE WALKING DEAD

What problems could the PTC seriously have with the most popular show on tv today? I mean it's not as if the AMC series is in any way horrifying, bleak, or stomach churningly gruesome now is it? Read on for a statement from PTC member Tim Winter..

In a recent story over at walkingdeadrumors.com, it is announced that PTC are up in arms over The Walking Dead's TV-14 rating. Tim Winter of the PTC released a statement regarding their problems with the show.

“Throughout its run, the AMC program ‘The Walking Dead’ has featured some of the most graphic and brutally intense violence and gore imaginable. The intensely violent content has included depictions of the cleaving of human skulls with a machete,” Winter continues, (that was an awesome scene, by the way) “extreme gun violence including graphic depictions of blood and brains splattering after gunshot wounds, and the use of a sharpened human bone as a weapon to stab another character. Clearly, this is content appropriate to an adult-only audience, but AMC has rated every single episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ as suitable for a 14-year-old child.”

Currently The Walking Dead is on a mid season hiatus until February. If the PTC holds strong on it's never waving stubbornness and ever reaching influence, what could it mean for the series when it returns or even come September when Season 4 premiers? Currently, The Walking Dead is the number one most successful show on television with millions of viewers each week. If they are forced to tone things down, will it mean a loss of viewers? Or would they rather take an R rating?

“The Walking Dead” season 3 will be returning to AMC on Sunday, February 10, 2013. The series is an American television drama series developed by Frank Darabont. It is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. The series stars Andrew Lincoln as sheriff's deputy[2] Rick Grimes, who awakens from a coma to find the world dominated by flesh-eating "walkers", resembling the zombies of George A. Romero's horror movies.

NemesisPrime Don't you dare even try to compare this to what happened in Connecticut. That is seriously tacky and distasteful.

Duh. Although I doubt any parent in their right mind would would sit and watch this show with young children I could see how it may warrant a bit more adult rating. But isn't AMC known for having more edgy programming in the first place? The one positive that I can see from the events in Connecticut is that hopefully parents will be more aware of what type of input their children are being exposed to and stop letting television and video games babysit their kids. Sad thing is that most parents these days are really nothing more than kids themselves morally. I say people should have to get a permit to have kids. They're really more dangerous than guns apparently.

Even tho there are stupid people in this site like the once above (not meaning superpooper) i do agree with superpooper everything comes down to parenting as i parent i would be so damn stupid to let my children watch this tv show

Yea who the hell would let their kids watch this show. I don't need some TV rating to tell me it's not made for kids. This is an adult show with a mainly adult audience. Give it whatever rating you want. Just keep it coming.

As a parent of 3 u raise ur kids how u think is they should be raised. Noone wants to be a bad parent. The Connecticut stuff is another seriously messed up person doin messed up things, u cant stop crazy people from bein crazy. Sayin the walking dead is to violent of a show for 14 yr olds is kinda stupid. My 5 yr old daughter watches it sometimes with me and her mom, knows it fake and just gets entertained by it. Hell the movie "IT" was seen by probably all of us at a young age and is the reason people hate clowns but we never went in a school and killed kindergarten kids. Parenting has everything to do with it. When they blamed marilyn manson for columbine and not the crazy kids, who complained about not having friends yet there were 6 of them, u realize society just blame who they think is a possible culprit...never their upbringing. As a young age i watched braveheart, it, poltergeist, and anything else violent and scary but had parents who raised me right. Dont blame insane or tv or music without blaming bad parenting.

Well he isn't incorrect lol. I love the show and the gore etc., but even I was surprised at how violent and gory it actually is, for regular tv. It's not like it's hbo or showtime. I even commented about it on facebook on the first episode, I was like holy shit it's violent and gory. It's great, I love it, but I was just surprised it was allowed.

Cable is not regular tv, we consider it to be but it's not so they can get away with a lot more. I like to watch The Boondocks, Black Dynamite, South Park & Always Sunny in Philadelphia & they all have the same rating, they all come on on normal Cable channels but none of those shows are for a 14 year old.

I'm surprised it took them this long to sound off.

Sure, rate it "TVMA" and keep it as it as.

No one will even notice.

The first five minutes have Rick shooting a girl in the head. This is both expected and understandable, as the violence and themes are not for little kids.

I'm offended by the PTC. If they had their way, the only shows on TV would be Full house or 2 and a 1/2 men, where you can actually hear the man pressing the canned laugh buttons because nobody real laughs at anything they do.. but it's safe shows.

I hate safe. I like ideas and shows that not only engage my mind, but my creative juices and my heart.

once again... I will say this. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T TURN IT ON. IF YOU HAVE IT ON, TURN THE CHANNEL, MORON> but don't f*** with something other people love just because you haven't grown up enough to understand it's Hollywood, not real stories, they are zombies, and nobody (esp the actors playing what is written for them to do) is being actually hurt.

@CaptainJackSpareribs

I'll answer with this:

"If I say that tomorrow, a gangbanger will get shot, or a truck full of soldiers gets blown up, nobody panics, cause it's aaaall part of the plaaan....even if the plan is horrifying."

"But if I say that one, little ole mayor will die....well then everyone loses their minds!"

Not sure how TV ratings are actually made...but the MPAA of movies is a shady deal. A "secret" group created by studios to watch and rate movies. This usually creates some odd ratings for movies: ie. an X rating for an "R" film just so it doesn't see the light of day.

The Supreme court ruled the Video Game ratings as arbitrary and not biding during purchase. So what if The walking dead was given a TV-MA rating? I don't see it as a bad thing.. .I don't think the audience would shrink, In fact it would give them more free reign to do EVEN MORE...probably their plan from the get go.

Three years later and now it's a big deal with the violence?

Look if you can't parent your kids to make sure they're not watching the show in the first place you only have you to blame. Why is it organizations and government feel it necessary to basically do our basic humanistic jobs for us? Because people are dumb.

I'm in my 20's with no kids so I don't pay attention to TV ratings, but if it's true that AMC rates TWD as being appropriate for 14 year olds that is insane.

love the show, but how can the network say it is appropriate for 14 year olds. no fracking way, agree with above, it should stay on air but give it a TVMA rating, and as for people that say it's not on till 10:00 pm, do you know that cartoon chanels are 24-7, i have channel surfed at 3 in the morning only to stumble accross scooby doo, WTF?!?!?!

Change the rating to TVMA and be done with it. Nothing will stop a child from watching the show if his/her parents are worthless and/or don't care. I do not allow my children to watch. They have never seen an episode and never will until they are old enough. It's not that freakin' hard to use parental locks and watch what my children are doing online... people are just lazy and look for an excuse for why they can't parent their children. Our society is completely f%$#ed up.
