THE WALKING DEAD: Is Daryl Dixon Gay? Robert Kirkman Says "It's Been Discussed"

While it appeared as if Daryl Dixon had found love with Carol a couple of seasons ago in The Walking Dead, comic book creator Robert Kirkman has commented on the theory that fan-favourite character Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) could in fact be gay. Read on for further details!

It didn't take long for Daryl Dixon to become one of The Walking Dead's most interesting and beloved characters, and the episodes focusing on him have been some of the best to date. Though he has come close to embarking on what appeared to be romantic relationships with Carol, and to a much lesser extent Beth, Robert Kirkman revealed in the latest issue of The Walking Dead comic book that there's every chance he could in fact be gay.

"All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing...we’ll tackle it in the show."

Given the upbringing he had with a brother like Merle, a story decision like this could prove to be fascinating and it would undoubtedly be a bold move for the AMC series. However, would the network allow it? "For the record, they absolutely would," Kirkman says.

What do you guys think?

Not bad. Meryl, the racist homophobic ignorant brother wouldn't want his brother to be gay.

First 3 seasons were a great arc that more or less felt concluded. The 4th season felt entirely aimless and just suffered terribly because of it.

I'm not interested in Season 5.

That would be pretty neat, revealing that about such a fan favorite would definitely have ramifications within the community, but I like the idea.

Eh if they do it, it'll be really illogical. He is the definition of a southern man born, and raised in hick town, trained to be as normal, (in a back woods southern sense), as possible. Not to sound like I'm being homophobic or anything, but with that comes the idea of that being morally wrong, which as with most things drilled into your head growing up would stick, and become your own moral compass. That being said he turning out gay would make zero sense considering. I think they should just not have him in any relationship, and not mention his sexuality at all. It's the zombie Apocalypse, there's no need for that, especially when it would just end up angering half the fanbase.

All the sales for the "Ms. Daryl Dixon" merchandise will plummet dramatically!

Well, Women might stop buying anyways. lol

@bakongo Unfortunately they all either left, or got banned. Well unfortunately in some cases anyways, like teabag, but some of them really needed to go.

I thought him and Carol would hook up. But as slow as he been moving in that regards I could see him being homosexual. Not something I would want, and it doesn't seem to fit the character's personality. I think if they were going to do that it would have the most impact with his brother being around. That would've created some great drama between those 2.

There definitely were some sparks between him and Carol, and even him and Beth seemed like a pretty interesting partnership. Making him gay could be interesting as well, but knowing the quality of writing on this show, it'd most likely be a terrible storyline that goes nowhere. Or they'd accidentally make it homophobic. It could be a good idea, but the show doesn't exactly have a track record of executing those kinds of ideas very well.

Don't care...

But if he starts carrying a cross-dresser-bow, we may be in trouble...

The only issue is, how does his being gay affect the characterization of D.D? It seems to me to be a very incidental thing (race, gayness etc.) unless it ties into the plot. If he's just another gay dude, so what? It neither adds nor detracts to the story, so it doesn't need to be stated. Remember Chekov's gun: if there is a gun in the first act, it absolutely must go off before the end of the pay. Thusly, we can just throw bits and pieces of social commentary without it affecting the storyline.

/rant.

That's kind of...dumb...in like everyway....

If they go with this it's just a way to gain hype for the show, and press, good or bad.

Not cause anything to do with his character suggests it

you know, i am genuinely surprised at how mature, open minded, supportive and indifferent the opinions in the comments are. Kudos ComicBookMovie community. Also, I would actually welcome this because it really would add a whole new dynamic to his character and even ifn it they don't do it it won't detract from him in any way. Gay or straight he is still a great character.

Not a good idea. I think the show would lose some followers. He's the coolest character why do they have to make him gay?? If it aint broke don't fix it.

He's obviously has not been a gay guy in seasons 1-4. But he just might be a virgin or sexually dysfunctional.

Daryl's sexuality is the least interesting thing about his character so I'm not bothered by him being gay. He's is a cool character and him being gay doesn't make him any less cool. If it does to other people -then you were never a fan of his character to begin with.

In fact, that might explain a lot to why he hasn't made a move on Carol so it wouldn't be out of character. It definitely will put an interesting twist to Daryl I wouldn't had expected. It sure will kill those "shippers" fantasies out there. That alone makes it worth it.
