AMC recently aired the first episode of Fear The Walking Dead, the official spin-off series to the smash hit The Walking Dead. Despite only having aired the one episode thus far, EW has confirmed that AMC has a new special coming up that ties into the companion series.

The special will be a thirty minute episode, taking place on an airliner that is midflight when the Walker outbreak begins. Someone needs to get Samuel L. Jackson involved because, yes, the special is essentially Zombies on a Plane. One of the characters who will appear in the special will survive, and they will then appear on the second season of Fear The Walking Dead

The special will be available online first, and will then be aired in chapters during commercial breaks of The Walking Dead main series. This isn't the first time AMC has used a mini-series of webisodes for The Walking Dead, but it is the first time the format will be used to introduce a character into a main television series set in that universe, and the first time those webisodes will also air on television.

What do you guys think? Are you excited for the miniseries, or will you skip it? Do you like the idea of the new character being introduced via this method, or would you prefer that the whole story be shown on Fear The Walking Dead? Be sure to sound off in the comments below.

They should have a special where we see an alternate series of events in which the show closly follows the source material. They should've killed off Daryl 2 seasons ago...hopefully they don't screw up the Negan arc. Maybe Daryl will meet Lucille if we're lucky.

@Canon108

If we saw alternate timeline specials, surely we'd have to see the What If? Story with the aliens from #100

@marvelstudios

Nice, I'm gonna watch it tonight

@Canon108 I dont see how that would be possible. Darryl was created for the tv show and has just recently made it into the comics.

Plus we all know Glenn is the one people should be worried about.

Actually I just did some research and he's not even in the comics yet. They did introduce a similar baddie in the series. He uses a crossbow and has severe burns across his body. Kirkman himself has stated he's not going to introduce Darryl in the comics citing that show and comics each follow their own individual path. See what happens when you do research? Lol

@Ramiel Yes after AMC saw it got 10.1 million viewers they announced season two and extend the order of episodes. Season 2 will be 15 episodes instead of six.

This should be a very cool take on the zombie disaster genre. Still gonna stick with Fear the Walking Dead. Just hope they do not wait till the last episode to give Edward his scissor hands.

This should only be done if the quality of the content is high.
Don't make it on the cheap & toss it out just to have more.

I didn't care for the first episode of FTWD. I get that its about the start of the outbreak but it was just sooooooo boring to me. Not to mention I hate just about every character already (especially the 2 sons and the daughter). Hopefully when all Hell breaks loose it'll get interesting but as of right now I'm not digging it.

Well it was just the first episode. They have to introduce characters, setting and context.

Excellent. I always loved those webisodes, and they stopped making them after the third season. Glad they're bringing them back.

@yingyangpalms - Not to be argumentative or anything, but Star Trek Voyager got seven seasons and still has fans, that's not what I'd call a nosedive. Seven seasons and an active fanbase is about the same (or more) than you can say about most commercially successful television shows.

@yingyangpalms - Oh, I see what you mean. Personally, I'm flabbergasted that Voyager was so derivative from The Next Generation, but that's neither here nor there. You're right, FTWD will most likely be a gradual fail.

LMAO @ People saying FTWD will fail. Hold that thought, till about 4 seasons from now.

Every pilot show starts off slow. That's not an indicator of anything.
