DOCTOR WHO: Jodie Whittaker Graces The Cover Of EW's Comic-Con Issue As The 13th Doctor

Aside from her brief appearance at the end of the recent Doctor Who Christmas Special, we’ve seen little of Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor. But ahead of the show’s big presentation at SDCC later this month, Entertainment Weekly has revealed their Comic-Con cover which puts the spotlight on the series' newest star.

Along with a new look at the latest incarnation of the famous Time Lord, EW also managed to get some comments from Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall about the pressure that comes with giving viewers the first female Doctor.

“There’s no rules, and it’s liberating. But it’s equally terrifying,” Whittaker said, well aware of the signficance of her role.

Meanwhile, Chibnall explained why he believed the time was right for Doctor Who to become an example and finally cast a female lead:

“I just felt the time was right. I think if the show hadn’t done it, we would have been behind the world, and Doctor Who has got to be out front leading the world, and being a great example of all the amazing things that are in the world. So, it wasn’t even a question in my mind.”

Check out the awesome cover featuring the iconic TARDIS and Jodie Whittaker in character as the 13th Doctor below:

Season 11 of Doctor Who is currently set to premiere some time this fall.

There is also at least one shot from the show itself revealed as well that you could put into the article. There were more released but they are hard to find ATM.

Honestly though this looks great, I'm getting very excited, something I haven't been for Doctor Who in a while.

As long as she is good, the writing improves, they dont treat the character any differently than they have for the past 50+ years, and they dont force some feminist message then Im sure the series will be great.
Wonder Woman barely drew attention to the fact that she was a woman, she was treated with just as much respect as Steve, and she never looked down on other characters for being men. Use that movie as an example of how female led movies should be handled

@dracula - the good thing about this is Twelfth was pretty indifferent about genders or sex. He literally didn't even remember if his first incarnation was a male or female. If anything expect an occasional poke or two of the Doctor forgetting he's a woman

I can't believe they let a guy whose only ever written average-bad episodes be the new showrunner. They should have given it to Gatiss.

Cool to have her in the role. I'm somewhat interested in watching her debut season, but I still haven't even really started with Capaldi's 12th Doctor. Hm.

I still find it difficult to see the Doctor now a woman and know absolutely that I can't watch the show anymore, but besides my aversion to this, Jodie Whittaker is a fantastic actress. Loved her in "Broadchurch" and hope for the best for her and the new series.

The leaked clip already has me pretty hyped, does someone have a TARDIS I can borrow to get to October?

From the leaked clip it felt a lot like she was just trying to emulate Matt Smith's moments of quick bursts of dialogue with a script that combined aspects of 'The Eleventh Hour' (The Doctors interaction with Amy and Rory) with the more comedic aspects of David Tennant's first few moments as the Doctor.

It is too early to judge her character and given her acting is emulating Matt Smith it's difficult to really get a sense for how well adapted she is in the role. It gives all the familiar signs of a fairly generic introduction episode akin to The Eleventh Hour' where the new actor/actress playing the character emulates the previous one to try and ensure fans do not turn off.

Normally this transitions over the course of the first three episodes and we normally have a finalised idea of what the new version of the Doctor is meant to be by the middle of the season.

Did not really get a sense of what they plan to do with her Doctor so still undecided on that. Feels kind of like they are trying to appeal to those who were still watching during the Matt Smith Era - arguably they still consider this period a success rather than the start of the decline in viewership, quality of writing and ratings.

Okay, I didn’t want to be “that guy” but here it goes........Dan Harmon is a wizard who can predict the future. He predicted a female Dr. Spacetime in Community, and lo and behold: life imitates art. If there is ever a Kickpuncher movie, I will find Dan Harmon and become his loyal acolyte!

@DENNISsystem - What? Did you think I would go on some Anti-Female Rant?!? You DID, didn’t you!? Well, you were WRONG!!!!!
