According to Entertainment Weekly, The CW's breakout crime drama, Arrow, has cast Doctor Who and ER actress Alex Kingston to portray "Dinah Lance" on the show.

Kingston will portray Laurel Lance's (Katie Cassidy) mother, who they note "will return to Starling City to make amends with her family that she abandoned years earlier following the tragic death of her daughter." Fans of the show know that Sara Lance was aboard Oliver's yacht, in which she died in a terribly tragic drowning.

In the original DC comics, Kingston's character was the original Black Canary. It's also interesting to note that Kingston will be the second actor from Doctor Who joining the show, as John Barrowman was previously cast as Malcom Merlyn (A.K.A The Dark Archer).

Are you excited about this casting? Sound off in the usual place.

@Spidermanfan2010, I don't think Rose is returning. Billie Piper was on a talk show a few weeks ago and she said they haven't asked her to participate.

The actors who played Amy, Rory and Martha have also stated they won't be involved.

As for John Barrowman, he's only recurring on Arrow. As he's not contracted to the show, he could do the Doctor Who special if he wanted to. The show or network really has no say in it. He would work it out.

The past tense of cast is cast.

Casted is Ye Olde English. Use that and I'll expect things like "beseech" and "prithee" out of you.

It must be very difficult to have mother who is moving backward in time.

Smart move. Dr. Who has had some cool episodes since the '05 relaunch. Some seem to repeat what came before, but still quality writing and yeah, this is good news. Glad Dr. Who still interests people.., it's not only entertaining, but also healing medication.

Arrow is alright. Seems to have a bit more than Smallville. ;-D

I'm not familiar with her. She does like look she could be Katie Cassidy's Mom though:

There's an uncanny resemblance there.

@Optimus In the comics, the first Black Canary was
actually Dinah's mother(Dinah Drake), then Dinah Lance became the second Black Canary.

On Arrow, Katie Cassidy's character is referred to as 'Laurel', but her name is Dinah Lance. She probably prefers to be called by her middle name, because of her mother abandoning her and her father after her sister died.
