MALCOLM MERLYN RETURNS - Oliver (Stephen Amell) rallies his team as Slade's (Manu Bennett) soldiers attack the city. Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) gets a call from S.T.A.R. Labs with game-changing news and Thea (Willa Holland) comes face-to-face with her father - Malcolm Merlyn (guest star John Barrowman). Nick Copus directed the episode written by Jake Coburn & Ben Sokolowski.

Arrow is a modern retelling of the DC Comic character Green Arrow. Multi-millionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing, and presumed dead after a shipwreck at sea. He is found five years later, having survived on a desert island off his wits and by mastering the bow and arrow. When he returns to Starling City however, he discovers that it is rife with corruption and crime. Oliver decides to put his skills to use by taking on the persona of Arrow and becoming the vigilante that Starling City needs.

Arrow features:
Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Arrow
Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak
David Ramsey as John Diggle
Willa Holland as Thea Queen
Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance
Susana Thompson as Moira Queen
Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance
Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke
Colton Haynes as Roy Harper
Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/Canary

Arrow returns May 7.

Definitely prefer Ollie/Laurel teaming up than Ollie/Sarah. They seem to have a better dynamic. I hope she starts training soon to become the black canary. I'm really hoping Laurel doesn't die, she's become a real strong character in the show instead of serving as the drama. Sarah is really annoying now, hope she leaves with Nyssa. Felicity said some pretty stupid shit at the reception for Moira, even Isabel had more class than her.

Solid episode that's building to something big. Hope it pays off!

These last 2 episodes are going to be amazing. Really hoping for a Meryln and Slade showdown.

And I'm glad Laurel is making a comeback, I've always wanted to like her but its been extremely hard. But I guess thats what they were going for, so good for Cassidy for making me hate her.

Anyone catch how one of the news interviewers was holding a microphone during the Sebastian Blood interview that read: "News 52"? Thought that was kinda cool :)

If it's been seen on the show before and I'm only realizing this now, just disavow this and move on :P

Sarah is the "one more" to die and Laurel will take the mantle of Black Canary. You heard it here first folks.

No we heard it numerous times since Sara first appeared.

Just for clarification, last night's episode was part 2 of a four part season finale. Greg Berlanti teeted that last week.

Another deus ex machina? Oh joy (sarcasm).

"Another deus ex machina? Oh joy (sarcasm)."

Yes, because Agents of SHIELD would never engage in such a lazy deus ex machine like the location-based encryption in "Only Light In The Darkness" or how they found the Guest House in "T.A.H.I.T.I."

You don't even hide the fact that you're a Marvelite! I like that. Great job!

@McGee: Neither of those things were deux ex machinas, you dim-witted chav. And bringing up Agents of SHIELD is a red herring to begin with, so...

i can't freaking wait tbh
it won't just be arrow team and merlyn vs slade and the army, it's arrow team, merlyn, sara, (probably roy) and nyssa (plus probably the league) vs slade and his army which sounds amaaaaaaaazing

also it seems like sara is dying in the flashbacks in the next episode so she's definitely dying on the show too, i guess. you know, they do love their parallels

Great episode! I know some people said there wasn't enough action, but with everything that happened to Oliver, you can't expect him to be fighting crime like nothing happened.

That would be unrealistic.

@ProfessorX If you hate the show so much, why do you spend so much time coming on Arrow articles?

Whenever there is an article about a TV show or movie I don't like, I usually don't bother commenting. Simple as that. You come off as a guy with too much free time on your hands with the way you troll Arrow articles.

@caroldanvers It is really exciting that they're building up to this huge showdown! It's going to be an amazing season finale!!!

I can see how an idiot with only partial knowledge of the term wouldn't recognize those examples as falling into deus ex machina (or deux ex machinas as your illiterate ass now wants to type it). See, it doesn't just refer to God like device/character coming out of nowhere to save the day. It also refers to implausible concepts used as solutions. And as far as the red herring goes...you forfeit the right to bring up fallacies the moment your dumb ass blithely judges an episode that hasn't come out yet, based on a cryptic synopsis. Try again bitch. :)

I have trouble not seeing Merlyn help Oliver. Merlyn wanted to save the city, not destroy it. He just though destroying the glades would save the city.

How will Roy kick anyone's ass on Slade's crew.
They are big ass criminal types with years of fighting & killing with same super drug.

Like Ollie,Roy would & should get his ass beat down.
More training is needed for that punk.
ProfessorX
ProfessorX - 5/1/2014, 6:26 AM
@McGee: Partial knowledge? The definition of a deus ex machina is as follows: "an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a contrived plot device in a play or novel." - https://www.google.co.uk/#q=define:+deus+ex+machina

The examples you listed are just standard plot devices, not dei ex machina.

"And as far as the red herring goes...you forfeit the right to bring up fallacies the moment your dumb ass blithely judges an episode that hasn't come out yet, based on a cryptic synopsis."

Just FYI, this^ is another red herring, as well as an ad hominem.
