Season 4 of Arrow was not the redemption that fans were hoping for after a lacklustre season 3. A slew of strange character decisions, pointless flashbacks, a loss of story momentum, and a weak finale has only infuriated fans further. Stephen Amell, star of the show, has said that he wishes for the show to go "back to basics" for its fifth season, and in a new interview with DC All Access, says that fans of the show (should they choose to stick around after season 4) should expect a major shift in the status quo going forward. "Of course everything is going to change. If you seen the finale, you know there is going to be a whole element for me professionally that we really haven't seen yet, and we have been in this cycle of introducing shows for a couple of years now. Obviously Supergirl is coming to the network, but we don't have to introduce Supergirl. I think we are going to focus a lot on just getting back to some of the stuff that Arrow does really well."
When asked for some details regarding Oliver's new nemesis in Season 5, Amell said the history of the show will be a factor in the reveal. "The only thing that I can tease is that it's only a villain we could do if we were in Season 5 of a show because it calls back to what has happened in yesteryear or yester-season as the case may be." As far as the new "irrepressibly charming" villain goes, only a few details have been revealed, including a tentative name, Anton Church. When asked for some more details on the baddie, Amell teased another powerless foe. “As far as I know, they don’t have superpowers. I’ll tell you that.”
