The Black Canary Mystery Deepens In New Extended Promo For ARROW's Midseason Premiere

In this new trailer for Arrow's upcoming midseason premiere, we learn more about the mystery surrounding Laurel Lance's return as well as getting some awesome shots of her Canary Cry powers in action...

The CW has released a new promo ahead of Arrow's return next week, and in it we learn that this Laurel Lance (who many fans will be known by Dinah Lance) fools Oliver Queen and company into believing that she returned courtesy of The Flash's decision to travel back in time and change history.

It's highly unlikely that's true, especially as this version of the Black Canary has a real Canary Cry, something you can see in the image above actually destroying the monument built for Laurel.

The character's return to Arrow gives The CW series a second chance with her, especially as they dropped the ball in such an appalling manner last year. With any luck, this isn't just Black Siren trying to manipulate the team for an episode or two as Team Arrow needs a new member now Artemis has decided to align herself with Prometheus. Do you have any theories about Black Canary's return?

OLIVER WANTS JUSTICE; FELICITY WANTS REVENGE — Worried that Prometheus is right and he is truly a killer at heart, Oliver (Stephen Amell) looks for any ray of hope and finds it in what seems to be the miraculous return of Laurel Lance (guest star Katie Cassidy). However, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), still reeling from Detective Malone’s murder, is bent on revenge – she wants to stop Prometheus at any cost. While in prison, Diggle (David Ramsey) fights for his life. Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Ben Sokolowski & Brian Ford Sullivan.

I want to see Talia goddamit! >:3

@Doomsday8888 - Which version of Talia do you want, though? The husky-voiced, discreet behind the scenes strategist, super hot, dark, exotic and mysterious Talia who loved Batman and is a criminal but still has a good heart, or the angry psychotic genocidal terrorist who got her own son killed after setting Gotham on fire and destroying Batman? Personally, I couldn't stand Grant Morrisson's depiction of Talia. I thought she didn't make sense and was really unlikeable.

@Asturgis - Yeah, her Leviathan persona was quite....extreme...
Nevertheless i enjoyed both versions!

In this case i'd like to see something along the lines of Arkham City, THAT kind of Talia! :D

@Doomsday8888 - You played Arkham City? Man, that scene before the fight against Ra's when Batman is poisoned and she greets him in her leather pants… I remember thinking "Wow, now that's how Talia should look like" :)

Looks like her casting is pretty all right for once. I hope we get to see Lady Shiva one day, one of my favorite characters (especially her Birds of Prey days, but also her NEW 52 self where she destroys Nightwing without him lending a single hit on her. I mean, screw Nightwing, right?).

@Asturgis -
eheheh i actually like Nightwing XD other than that i complety agree with you, Lady Shiva is a Badass, i became a big fan of her after that Knightfall saga stuff, good times!

I hope Arrowverse Talia will have an accent, just like in Arkham City...oh boy!

@Doomsday8888 - I really used to like Nightwing, he had his moments, his relationship with Damian was great, he was cool before Knightfall, he wore the cowl with pride, but I think many writers ruined him over a few years by trying to making him everything at once.

They tried to make him the most badass fighter on the planet slash super secret agent slash hottest guy who gets all the girls slash key piece of too many story arcs for no reason (he was supposed to become the greatest Talon who ever lived, really? Guy is so badass Owlman has to imprison him in a cell made for Doomsday, really?)

And in the meanwhile, supposed badass literally changes towns and runs away twice a year, goes back to the circus in Gotham, back to New York, then Bludhaven, then Chicago, then back to New York, quits from literally 10 teams and 10 leader positions, and confronts Batman 10 times by telling him he's not his dad and he wears a big boy suit. Guy needs to rediscover himself every 2 weeks like a teenager, and even though every chick seems to have the hots for him, he can't keep one for more than 2 dates. Guys quits, fails and resigns EVERYTHING, ALL THE TIME. For [frick]'s sake :)

Kinda like Arrow, actually. Circle is complete. They're trying to make him a badass, which worked for a while, but now he just appears as a whiny emo douche. I have the exact same problem with Nightwing as I have with Cyclops.

@Asturgis -
HA!
Funny you mention Cyclops XD
Coz i was just about to say that i'm a huge X-Man fan and maybe that's why i like Dick Grayson so much, few character had such an evolution throughout the years in the DCU.
From Robin to Nightwing, then Batman back to Nightwing (but a different one) and also a spy agent!
Every X-Man has to go under this kind of journey, and yeah they ruined Scott's character during the AvX event but...idk it really resonates with me! :D
It takes balls to drastically change such a famous character, and i appreciate that.

@RebelCommander - Just before :P
Haha! But honnestly, I watched it til' last season. So I'm not as much a hater as you would think. Just couldn't handle the Felicity and Oliver bullshit.

@Highball - Completely agree on the Felicity crap. It kinda got old after 5 seasons, I just saying the trolls get old after a while

@Highball - Understandable dude. This season has been leaps and bounds better than the last 2. I was ready to call it quits and have been pleasantly surprised. Better than Flash this season for Chur.

jumpingtheshark - 1/18/2017, 1:43 PM
@Highball The first 2.5 seasons of Arrow were good. The current season has been waaaay better than expected. Mostly because Oliver and Felicity are no longer together, and they aren't centering the show around her every episode.

I think this Lauren in earth 2 probably was in love with Ollie and lost him which lead to her demise. And now she has him back, sorta

Here's what I know. Katie Cassidy needs to unleash her inner Ruby from Supernatural Season 3. That, Ruby could be, Black Canary.

Continuing my journey through Smallville. Now on season 6. Now comes all the other heroes and alien stuff
Origame
Origame - 1/18/2017, 3:04 PM
@Kevwebsz - Yeah I'd suggest you turn back now. This is where they start to lose focus and pretty quickly turn from a smart prequel to Superman into pretty much Superman without the name and costume.
TheManWithoutFear
TheManWithoutFear - 1/18/2017, 1:01 PM
But if they were gonna bring her back, why kill her in the first place. I dropped Arrow when she died because it just felt like the writers had no idea where they going anymore, and this move just screams the same thing. I used to love Arrow.

LMFAO! What Mystery?
Asturgis
Asturgis - 1/19/2017, 5:28 AM
@BlackStar25 - Only mystery is why they would give the Black Canary role to such a terrible actress who doesn't fit the physical bill (her sister does), kill her off, then decide to bring her back. Because it's Arrow. Everyone who dies comes back the following season, unless they have another contract (which is why Tommy is definitely not Prometheus). Well, better than 80 pounds Thea who became a ninja master in 5 weeks, I guess. As far as terrible casting goes, those two are both completely unbelievable and unlikeable.
