'Vertigo' Battles 'The Arrow' In New Clip From ARROW Season 3, Episode 1; "The Calm"

In the second clip from the season three premiere of Arrow, we're introduced to the brand new Vertigo (Peter Stormare). As you can see after the jump, he makes short work of The Arrow (who ends up battling...Oliver Queen?!) and quickly establishes himself as a terrifying new threat...

OLIVER SEARCHES FOR AN IDENTITY BEYOND THE ARROW — With crime in Starling City at an all-time low thanks to the Arrow (Stephen Amell) and his team, Oliver thinks he can finally balance being both the Arrow and Oliver Queen and asks Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) out on a date. However, when a new villain (guest star Peter Stormare) emerges, who has claimed the name Vertigo from the recently deceased Count, Oliver is caught off-guard and someone close to him is hurt. Oliver and a newly suited up Roy (Colton Haynes) take on the Count. Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) becomes a father, Lance (Paul Blackthorne) is promoted to Captain, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) joins Arrow’s inner circle and Felicity gets a part-time job at a tech store to make ends meet. Also, Oliver fights to regain his company, Queen Consolidated, but comes up against a very worthy opponent – the charming Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh). Glen Winter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Marc Guggenheim & Jake Coburn.

Starring Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Colton Haynes, Willa Holland, Paul Blackthorne, and John Barrowman, Arrow will air on Wednesdays at 8pm ET/PT on The CW with season three set to premiere on October 8th. Are you guys excited?

So now the vertigo shows your true fear??? So he's Scarecrow now??? Another batman villian stolen only this time, more subtly and underhanded. I love Arrow but it's too Batman lite

Awesome clip! It wouldn't load earlier.

I love it when characters have inner struggles literally play out on screen. There was a similar scene (the only good one) in Superman 3.

That was actually pretty cool, mostly because Arrow didn't talk.

ArroCW rips off Batman as much as TNA rips off WWE!!! I hate that they had to bring in the Flash. I'd rather have a Flash: Animated Series. It doesn't have the "Arrow" hogging up the spotlight. Star Labs actually has employees fit for the job, not some teenagers. The action will actually look great because the Flash was meant for animation. All of the storylines will play out like their own comic book issue, not some tween gooey noooey drama bullshrimp that the CW and ArroCW is known for. The ArroCW finale literally ending with Olicity talking about a "fake kiss" and that "You sure tricked me"-- CRINGEWORTHY. Make it happen DC Animation! #FlashTheAnimatedSeries

I have always liked Peter Stormare as an actor so it is good to see more credible actors coming to this show. He is already a better Vertigo than the last buy because that guy was way too over the top.

Stormare played Satan in Constantine (the movie), so he's qualified to play any villain ever now.
