GOTHAM Bumps Morena Baccarin Up To Series Regular Status For Season 2

When she was introduced, Morena Baccarin was a welcome addition to the cast of Gotham, and it looks like next season will feature even more of the good doctor as Fox recently announced that Baccarin has been promoted to a series regular. Come check it out!

When Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) first debuted as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, many didn't expect her to stick around for too long, but with Erin Richards' Barbara Kean falling out of favor with fans, Baccarin received an expanded role as her relationship with Ben McKenzie's Jim Gordon evolved over the course of the latter half of the show's freshman season. And with Barbara's status, after her attack on Lee in the season finale, a little uncertain, it looks like Gordon will have the nice doctor to keep him company for a good while longer.

Earlier this week, Fox officially announced that their Batman prequel drama Gotham has decided to exercise Baccarin's option to promote her from recurring status to a series regular. We all know Barbara Kean is supposed to eventually become Barbara Gordon, but with the direction the series is heading, could we see a further deviation in the Batman mythos?

What do you think of Baccarin's promotion? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Nice, she's a much better character than Barbara.

Hey, since this is an elseworld's deal lets just have Gordon marry Thompkins and Barbara ends up in a sewer gutter!

While I don't like Gotham, I like Leslie's and Gordon's relationship. While I prefer the Leslie that was said to have taken Bruce in the night his parents died and sort of had a past with Alfred, I like this take with her and Gordon.

With her and Gordon, it would why Barbara is smart.

Huh, I just realized that they kind of screwed Barbara Gordon (Batgirl). It's unlikely Jim would go back to Barbara after now she's batshit crazy. So if he had a daughter, why would he name the daughter after an old girlfriend who was batshit crazy?

They may have to go the niece route.

So @KingPatel still think Chicago is gonna win the series ;)

Kill off Barbara. Gordon and Thompkins can name their daughter in her memory.

Barbara as Harley Quinn's mother.

Yes to further deviation from Batman mythos.

Honestly, (and without trying to start a "war") i don't see many people raving about GOTHAM anymore. I'm not sure how they get thru Season Two.

I've always been confused about Gordon's canon family... I'm used to the idea of Barbara Gordon being his daughter and Batgirl from the old TV show and the Batman Animated Series. So apparently she's named after her mother (Not all that common in my experience, buy okay.) Yet any time I see something like "Year One" or the Nolan Batman films, Gordon has a son and no daughter.

What happened to Gordon's wife and son?

she is so freaking sexy. Her character is so much more tolerable than her character on homeland.

This is good news. She is one of the best things about this show.

I like Gotham more than the other CB shows for the same reason I liked Daredevil, it's just about normal shit. No talking apes, no magic ponds, and no alien resurrections.

When is this show going to Netflix? My DVR wiped out most of the second half of this show a while back.

Dr. Thompkins and Det. Gordon share much better chemistry then Barbara and Gordon. (And I think Doc looks better too to add some points)

But yeah just have Barb go crazy and then die, but die doing something heroic for jim and lee and then jim and lee go on to have a daughter and namer her barbara (barbara gordon…hence batgirl) and all will be well!

The show is clearly going in its own direction so they will obviously come up with a different origin for Batgirl (if they even include her). They have already killed off Maroni and Falcone has seemingly 'retired' to they are clearly doing their own thing (which i have no problem with)

Cool. Gordon has reeeaally upgraded from that last one I must say.

Barbara has gone completely, certifiably fruit loops. I didn't see that one coming. I figured she'd just sink even more into her glassy eyed, self pitying, lush ways. But this is on a whole new level.

It's mindbottling why Gordon would name his daughter after his psycho ex-girlfriend who murdered her own parents and attempted to murder his girlfriend.

@McGee - "B...have you watched Better Call Saul yet?"

It's more great than a little bit!!

I've seen/heard multiple folks say it starts off better than Breaking Bad, which I find it hard to really disagree with. Jonathan Banks deserves an Emmy for best supporting actor.

@Gusto - "Better Call Saul is the 2nd
best show on television."

I co-sign. Game of Thrones being the best, in my opinion.

Deviations from the source are fine. All will be fixed when The Rock punches a hole in reality in the Shazam film and causes the CRISIS ON INFINITE MOVIE AND TV VERSES!!

Good. I think she and Ben have better chemistry. The writers did Barbara a disservice by making her a bisexual, drug addict with sadistic-narcissism tendencies.

Since she's on the show I've actually started to like it a lot more. With her being a regular and Fish being fed to the fishes S2 could be cool!
