Who Needs BATMAN? GOTHAM Debuts With Strong Ratings

The return of The Big Bang Theory last night obviously meant that it won the evening in terms of viewership, but the series premiere of Gotham still did extremely well on Fox in a series which puts the spotlight on a young Detective Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne...

For those of you who said a Batman TV series without the Caped Crusader wouldn't work, think again! It may not have won the night, but Gotham had a strong debut in terms of ratings with a very strong 3.2 rating with adults 18-49 and 8 million viewers. Various sites also believe it will gain a lot through DVR too. It's still early days of course, and if it fails to attract casual viewers AND faithful comic book fans over the next few weeks, the new series could experience a significant dip. On the other hand, positive buzz (and there's certainly plenty of that) might see the opposite happen. We'll just have to wait and see! A significant ratings drop certainly didn't stop Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. getting a second season and the pilot episode of Gotham was arguably far superior to that one. What did you think of the pilot? it was a good show. I'm just hoping they don't get caught up in trying to display too many Batman villains. They should not be the focus.

@RebelVulcan thats what I mean, those numbers are not counting, but all in all Gotham can easy say it has 10+ million viewers in the first ep alone.

Doopie & other brits already watched it online plus some people watch it on DVR & on Fox.com.

I have to say I'm happy it didn't come close to AoS's premiere ratings...lol. But that's just my Marvel bias showing.

Looks like it had a solid premiere, kudos.

Time will tell if it can stand up to MNF and Big Bang Theory. Curious, what time did the pilot air?

Such a great start, I got giddy half way through. The Gordon/Bullock relationship was perfect especially in the meat room scene. I particularly love what they're doing with the Peinguin and seeing him be so brutal at the end (and from what we saw in next weeks preview) makes me excited to see where his character goes. The bigger budget the show has really sets it apart from other comic book shows. All in all it's a great pilot episode that has trumped both Agents of SHIELD and Arrow's respective pilots. I'll be waiting for episode 2 with bated breath.
