Following the success of Batman Unburied (which was renewed for a second season last month), Spotify, Warner Bros. and DC have announced that Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind is now in production.
Christina Ricci (Wednesday, Yellowjackets) is set to play Harley Quinn, with Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die, The Many Saints of Newark) on board as The Joker and Justin Hartley (Smallville, This Is Us) providing the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
According to the official logline (via THR), the series will tell the story of Gotham villain Harley Quinn from her perspective — instead of the Joker’s.
"The story begins when Quinn is still known as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a top psychologist at Arkham Asylum who is determined to help the patients her colleagues have given up on."
“But her dad is sick, and in need of an expensive, life-saving operation Harleen can’t afford. So when she meets ‘Patient J,’ a unique criminal who seems to have a strange power over everyone but her, Harleen makes a fateful decision: to use her relationship with J to get what she needs, leading both of them down a dangerous path that will change their lives forever,”
The podcast was developed by Homecoming writer and executive producer Eli Horowitz.
This will mark Ricci's first comic book-based role, though we're sure many fans would prefer to see her suit-up as Harley in live-action! The actress, who will also appear in Netflix's upcoming Wednesday, has had some practice playing an unhinged character as the adult version of Misty in Showtime's Yellowjackets.
