So, we still don't know who will play Supergirl (which is incredibly disappointing), but CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler shared plenty of other details about the series during an appearance at the Television Critics Association's Winter Press Tour earlier today. For starters, Supergirl will be a crime procedural, but don't fret, it will have serialised elements too. "There will be cases, but what [executive producers] Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti pitched was a real series arc for her," Tassler revealed. "The beauty of it is now with shows like Good Wife and Madam Secretary, you can have serialized story elements woven into a case of the week. She’s a crime solver, so she’s going to have to solve a crime. She’s going to get a bad guy." Supergirl - and the direction she'll take in the series - was described at the event as "a very strong, independent young woman. She’s coming into her own. She’s dealing with family issues. She’s dealing with work issues. It’s a female empowerment story. If you look at the strong female characters we have on the air, it really is resonant of that … We’re big feminists. It’s her intellect, it’s her skill, it’s her smarts. It’s all of those elements. It’s not just her strength, which she does have."

According to Entertainment Weekly, CBS are hoping to find a lesser known actress for the role, and while we didn't get any casting news today, Tassler did share some details on what they're hoping for from whoever ends up taking on the role. "She’s got to be an every woman. She’s got to be specific. She’s got to be a terrific actor. [It's] looking for someone who embodies both the freshness and the exuberance of being a young woman in today’s challenging climate and being someone who can carry this kind of series on her shoulders. It’s a big, big show." There may not be an actress to wear it just yet, but Supergirl's costume has been made and apparently looks pretty great! "We have seen the costume. Awesome costume." She added that it was designed by Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, the creator of the costumes in Arrow and The Flash. Oh, and talking of those two CW shows, we likely won't be seeing a crossover anytime soon despite what we heard yesterday. "That’s a different network so I think we’re going to keep Supergirl to ourself right now," Tassler added. What do you guys think about these latest Supergirl details? Sound off below!

It may be a different network but it is 50% owned by CBS so I would bet we would see a crossover sooner rather than later or not at all. The same with the TNT Titans series...that is also owned by WB.

Sounds like the Supergirl producers need to talk to CBS marketing people. Someone didn't get the memo. Pull the show off CBS, make room for it on the CW. CBS sounds like they want to make it into something people won't watch anyway, when was the last attempt at doing a Superhero show anyway, the 90's Flash show they cancelled after a season?

Everything here sounds incredibly awesome. It seems like they get it, they really get it. But then you get to this:

"That’s a different network so I think we’re going to keep Supergirl to ourself right now..."

Combine that with the crime-solver thing, and it's like...what?

Has anyone else seen the Wonder Woman pilot? This reminds me of that mess. The shared universe is what gave me hope. Now? All hope is gone.

Give it a chance people, I'm hoping that she's ashamed of being an alien & that's why she fights crime in secret. That way when she's at work & walking around everyday she feels confident & beautiful but when she looks in the mirror all she sees is an alien that "normal people" are afraid of. That could be her flaw, her fear since she was a child of not fitting in, her own personal hell.

I was excited for this show ... and now I'm not at all. I'm not a huge DC fan but I do enjoy watching Arrow and Flash, if Supergirl was tied into it I would definitely be watching but this kills it for me. The shared TV Universe DC was seemingly trying to create was my favorite part about it. I'm just one random person but the powers in charge of this should re-think this or at least hold off on a final decision to crossover till the show gets running.
