SUPERGIRL: Reign's Ascent To Season 3's Big Bad Worldkiller Will Divide The Team In More Ways Than One
With the new season of Supergirl nearly upon us, a ton of new details about this season's big bad, Reign, have surfaced alongside our first official photo of Odette Annable as the villain's alter-ego.
After winning the battle against Rhea, in heartbreaking fashion no less, Kara's going to have her hands full this season with an even more unpredictable big bad in the Worldkiller Reign, played by the lovely Odette Annable (House M.D.). Not much is known about the character just yet and we've only barely caught a glimpse of her in the brief teaser from a few weeks ago, but now, thanks to TV Insider, it looks like we have our first concrete details on her upcoming debut.
First off, when we meet her, she'll have no idea she's a Worldkiller and while her journey to discovering the truth about her past is being touted as relatively original, it does sound eerily similar to Davis Bloome's Doomsday arc during the eighth season of Smallville. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teases, "But she has no idea! She has been living in National City as [a now grown-up] person named Samantha Arias." He continues, "Sam is just Sam," a working single mom, who as the season progresses "will realize there is something different about her. It’s a fun dark-mirror version of the journey Christopher Reeve took in the original Superman as Clark.”
It also sounds like she'll be connecting with several members of Team Supergirl and that her inevitable ascent into this coming season's ultimate big bad will cause some major friction amongst the core group of heroes. “Everyone will have a relationship with her, and that will drive much of the season in terms of how far they’re willing to go to stop her when she becomes Reign. Some will believe she needs to be saved; others will think she needs to be stopped.”
